I converted a mini refridgerator into an incubator. Works very well, but the problem I am seeing with it is that I seem to be only hatching out females. Last egg I hatched I set it on top of one of my gecko enclosures close to the lights. I am hoping for a male!

I think tht there is more to it that temperature for sex determination.Certainly for the Mascarene species otherwise we would have way more male cepediana, guimbeaui etc.

Having said that my borbonica hatchings are looking male and they were hatched in the adults vivaria with a good range of temperatures,ie,hot in the day and cool at night.

Until I read a thread on here the other day I was under the impression day geckos were not TSD! I have placed another probe directly under egg tub and it's reading 26.6 so leaning towards female hopefully

I dont think that it is Mark. There are other factors that we dont know about.

I am not certain as yet that my borbonica are males but they had a range of temperatures throughout one day not just hot or cold,I believe this could have something to do with it.

I've been reading that the fluctuating temperatures can have a lot to do with getting males. I'm sure that is not the only factor though. Either way, I now have 2 young geckos that in a few months I should find out if they are boys are girls. The newest was incubated in place inside the adult enclosure. I can't believe I even found it tonight Took about 10 minutes and a good flashlight. The baby looked like a grey streak on a dead leaf! Anyhow, If I end up with more young ladies I will continue to scratch my head and wonder.

Mark, did you use an incubator for your eggs? The typical range in my incubator at the times used was 26.6-28.5C, and like I said so far I seem to have all females hatching from those eggs.
