Adopted a Giant Day Gecko from someone said he had her for a few years. he delivered tank with live plant and soil set up. Noticed today about 6 days Iíve had her that there are tiny little ants crawling around. Havenít seen any in dish with Pangea mix but noticed some on bottom when taking out dish. How often do you change out the soil in living tanks? I donít want them spreading to my house or my green tree frogs tank. Totally freaking out... hoping someone can give me an exact list of what to buy soil wise etc. itís exo tank 18x24. I donít want to have to freak her out but I would like to get it done and set up so she is good for a while.

This is what I have used as my guideline for a naturalistic setup. I will admit that I have occasional supplemental insects invade my setups....all have been eagerly consumed by my lined day-geckos. So far as soil changes; if properly drainage is maintained, it hasn't been a problem. Replacing the substrate, if ever necessary, shouldn't be too difficult. My original tank showed no sign of breaking down after a year. My problem is that when I decided to move my pair to a larger tank, I needed to completely destroy the background and dig up the plants.....Oh well, I wanted a redesign anyway.
