I am making a bio active terrarium for a future crestie. I have hand made the background with expanding foam, covering it with silicone, and applying eco earth to cover it. I had been using GE 1 100% silicone, until now…. I went to Home Depot and grabbed this stuff and got home and used it, not noticing it was different until I actually started applying. Do I need to scrap the side I used it on? If it is cured and covered well with the eco earth is that ok?

Side note: I won’t have a crestie in that terrarium for a while (I’m thinking months) since it is quite large and I’ll get a baby (so will be housed in a small terrarium until it is a decent age/size) image.jpg

I can’t find a straight answer anywhere, especially since the enclosure won’t be occupied for a while. But when it does, will it still be a problem? When it gets wet from misting?

According to DAP’s website, it’s a acrylic latex sealant. It has mold, mildew, and algae resistance but I can’t find info on what makes it resistant

Does DAP's website have a customer service number you could phone to find out what makes DAP's Dynaflex Ultra's acrylic latex sealant resistant to mold, mildew, and algae? Does it contain volatile organic compounds?

Sorry about that! They said they don’t have test data for reptiles, there’s a mildewcide in it. But I asked if it would leech with the constant humidity and water exposure and they said when it’s fully cured there should be no issue

It sounds like it will be OK when it's fully cured, but I really don't know.

1. How long does Dynaflex Ultra take to be "fully cured"?
2. Did you ask DAP which mildewcide it contains & whether or not that = a volatile organic compound?

I did not ask but I won’t be placing the crestie in there for a couple months at least so I’d assume it would be fully cured. The tube says ready for rain in 1 hour
