I probably reinvented the wheel with this "invention", but I'll show it to you nonetheless. I was having problems getting my
L. mombasicus eggs out from tight spots such as these:
So then it comes to me: I need something thin, that will nicely fit within a space that is, at most, the width of an egg: about 4-5 mm. But how will I get something that thin that can grasp the eggs without being wider than the egg itself? Even if the opening was a few millimeters larger, how would I go about estimating how much force I needed to hold on to the eggs without destroying them with something such as tweezers?
Solution: double-sided tape.
I used a scrap piece of light-colored (=soft) balsa wood that I happened to have on hand (since I also build RC-aircraft). Here's the piece of wood with a piece of double-sided tape:
Wrap the tape around the tip of the Eggstraktor wand and you're done! Leave the protective paper on the tip to prevent the glue from drying out and collecting dust.
..so how many of you all have used something 100% like this before? I'm guessing that at least a handful have done so. I've used a tool such as this to extract almost two dozen eggs so far, with zero problems.
