Male
Default Viv setup and heating

Hello all. I am new to the forums... i have 4 geckos- 2 Female leopards, One is 2yrs old and the other a 11mths old.. A fat Tail African gecko(female 1yr old) all in the 40G Viv. Then 2 yr old male Giant Albino Leopard(which is in the tub below the viv)

First and for most , I thought i knew alot about Geckos from my time working at a pet store but i was wrong.. We have had the young Leps since hatchlings, got the 2yr old female from a customer for $20(she is a sweet heart and the only gecko i have never had any kind of problems with) We got the Albino from a supposed very respectful breeder. The albino weighed 80g when we ordered him, got him and only weighed about 60g, he wont hardly ever eat and the seller has never returned my phone calls or emails.. ANYWAYS THE ALBINO IS VERY LETHARGIC.. Has been for about 7 months but the vet says he is healthy and it was probably the change from life being in a tub with no light to being in a Viv so I decided to put him back in a tub and he seems much happier and now after 7 months he will finally eat crickets(not just meal worms)..

The other reason I had done away with 3 Viv's is the African Gecko was digging all over the place killing plants and got the eye infected of my male leopard by slinging dirt..So in 1 week i lost my healthiest geckos.. 1 Male leopard about 17 months old, vet said had an eye infection but it spread rapidly into his brain killing him in 4 days..

Second was my baby, A Crested Gecko named Sticky, was perfectly healthy but seemed to have gotten impacted and the vet couldnt fix it..

So albino male goes into tub, Main Viv gets marble rocks to stop the digging..

my main concerns are,

do i need a solid top for the viv?? right now it is covered 80% wood and 20%screen top

also my topsoil is getting hard and didnt seem to drain water very well, how do I prevent this??

Also, what about covering the marble with a moss??

The other question is heating.. I just came across the flex watt heat tape.. I was thinking of running the 3" or 4" taped to the back of the Viv , just to heat the soil.. Wouldnt this work??

Also would it be better to use 1 or 2 strips of 3" heat tape for the tubs or just use 11" for it??
