Default Slate?

Hi,

Was just wondering what everyone uses to fill the gaps between the slate, in a Leopard Gecko tank.

Could I use sand underneath and then in the gaps, use stones that are big enough not to be ingested?

I want a natural looking tank and one that I can keep clean.

Any suggestions please?

Thanks

There is a few different options that you could do depending on your set-up. If you're still setting the tank up you can create a mixture of clay and sand, press the slate into the mixture then let it dry into a hard pack. If your tank is already set-up and your leo is 8 months or older you can use sand or larger pebbles to fill in the gaps.

As for cleaning the hard pack clay would probably be the best bet. If you use sand any urates and liquid can soak in making it difficult to clean, and you would have to clean it all out a couple times a year.

What I have done though is found out what area our leo uses as a bathroom and put an extra slate tile on top of it. She now uses that as her bathroom making it easier to take out and clean.

personally i wouldn't use the hard paced clay because it will also absorb the urates probably more so then sand also sand is a little bit easier to remove.

ntw i use a sand mix not alot but enough to fill in any cracks. also this is only for adults all of my babies of kept on paper towel

I'd just use sand in the gaps. But stones that are too big to swallow would work as well
