In one of my breeding groups I had a unique situation occur. My male passed away from a prolapsed hemipene, but did pass on his genetics, and I got two healthy eggs. The following month, my female laid two eggs, but one one made it (the other died a few days later).

This month, my female has laid only one egg. There is plantation soil lining the bottom of her enclosure but it dries out really fast, and after all this trouble it has caused I plan on moving back to paper towel substrate. I also have a moist deep lay box in there that all my females in my other breeding groups tend to prefer. She chose to lay in a dry area. The eggs is yellow-ish and dented, so I'm predicting that it won't be viable, but I incubate until it molds just in case (I have seen dented yellow-ish eggs come back and grow).

Should I be concerned that she only laid one egg? Could she be bound with the other one? Any idea why she would choose the dryier spot, as it is right next to the lay box? If these eggs (this egg) does turn out to be a dud, should I pair her with a different male this season, or is there still hope that she can lay viable eggs from her pairing with my male who passed away, or should I just let her live out this season, and try again with her next?

All input is really appreciated.

This is my first leachie. I got her at a small reptile show recently, but the vendor didn't know which locale she was from as they were selling for someone else! She was squished into a small round plastic container!!! and her nose was rubbed to such an extent that she had a patch on top. He said it was from being in the container! He may be right, as its gone now. She eats Cgd well. This was the first time I'd seen one of these beauties, and now I'm hooked:-) I've been looking at photos online trying to figure out which locale or type she is, but I find it difficult to tell. I think she's Nuu Ana. What do you think?
But I just have a few questions about bathing her . I've read on a few sites bathing is something they really can enjoy , it feels good for them and its good for shedding in the future .
How should I bath her ? And I'm guessing I would not use any type of soap , because that would be toxic to her . What degrees should the water be ? And for how long should I let her soak ?

Hello GU! My name is James, and I've lurked here for months!

I live in Yonkers, New York. Naturally, there isn't much herp-wise to be found here, but that seemed to only spur my love of nature and animals to prosper. I've always had a profound interest in animals and captive care, and have had dogs, birds and multiple fish tanks over the years (fresh and saltwater). However, I hadn't ever had any herps, and that was where my major interest was (possibly because I don't encounter them much in the wild here).

My herp hobby addiction began with seeing some chondros on television, and instantly I caught the research-bug. I began delving into all the information I could get, starting with chondros and eventually budding off into other species. After several months of information gathering, I landed on colubrids. At the April 21st NYMRE, I purchased Red Foreman, my beautiful hatchling corn snake. I felt the addiction that I had read so much about surging through my whole being, but kept ample control over it.

That is, until I took another look at the Rhacodactylus (well, it was Rhacodactylus at the time when I was reading it:lol:). Almost coincidentally, the Petsmart near me (I KNOW I KNOW but this particular one has my seal of approval to an extent. At least the reptiles aren't dead like at the Petco down the street) stocked a little juvenile crested gecko for the first time. After seeing one for the first time it took two days until I cracked and bought a new viv setup. And now here I am, typing this thread beside my new setup, with multiple windows of various breeders websites choosing the next addition.

And here's little Frogdog, in all his buckskin glory.

Hello

I am new to this site and to owning a gecko but would be so thankful for some advice.

Hello

I am new to this site and to owning a gecko but would be so thankful for some advice.

We got Flasher our leopard gecko three months ago and things have been going great. Since I don't know much about reptiles I trusted the pet store a bit too much I think.

I bought the all in one gecko kit that they said was great and started feeding him meal worms at their suggestion. The starter kit had sand to put in the bottom and they said it would keep the gecko warm and happy. (I also added a heating pad to under the bottom of the cage that was not included) They said to feed him five meal worms on Mon/Wed/Fri and that is what I have been doing.

He normally eats them right away but on Friday he did not eat which was not normal.

I got on line and started doing lots of research. Read how awful sand can be so I switched to paper towels and cleaned out the sand right away. I looked at his tummy and it did look a bit blue and I was worried that he has gotten impacted. :(

Based on advice I read on here I gave him a warm bath twice on Saturday and once everyday since. The first two days he pooped a large amount that turned out to be ALL sand. I felt so awful that he had eaten that much sand and it was stuck in there. :( But thankful he got it out. On Saturday I also went to the pet store and got five crickets which he ate right away. So I was feeling really encouraged.

However, he STILL has not gone poop again since Saturday and then it was only sand in the bath - no normal excrement from the crickets. Today I got more crickets since I read meal worms can also cause impaction so I am trying to give him crickets instead of the meal worms to help. He ate the five crickets right away around noon. But still no poop. :(

Does it sometimes take a few days for crickets to pass? Should I continue the baths even though the last couple of days they don't seem to be helping? Is there anything else I can try at home?
