Hey guys,

So my question is in the title. I'm a little concerned I was checking on the eggs this morning and it was dark in the room so I took out my flashlight to have a look and i noticed that the eggs were pale yellow on the inside when I brought the flashlight close. I swear during the first week I saw veins. Could these eggs have lasted this long if they were infertile? I'm on day 79@82F incubation. I figured if they were infertile they would have molded or collapsed by now, but shouldn't I have seen something with the flashlight? How full proof is candling? I'll be pretty bummed if these turn out to be duds...

All three pairs of Underwoodisaurus milii in my collection laid eggs over the weekend :D I have 6 eggs in the incubator.

I'm incubating them at 28 to 30C, is this too hot? I've been looking around online and in all my books and it gives a range of 26 to 32 (thats like 4 different ranges put together). But then again U milii do not like high temps above 30..... Anyone else successfully incubated eggs of this species, and if so what temp did you use?

I'm currently going by my copy of 'Keeping and Breeding Australian Lizards' by Mike Swan, which also says intervals between clutches are 20 to 30 days, with up to 6 clutches a year (4 more common) and an incubation time of 50 to 70 days at 28C. How does this compare to others experience?

Sorry for all the questions, first attempt breeding this species, and I want to get it right.

Thanks

Last August I produced a gorgeous striped male levis. Some of his siblings have a short dorsal stripe at the base of their tail. Of course I very interested to see whether this striping was genetic or an anomaly. Well, I just hatched out the first offspring and there is definitely some striping involved. The baby has more of a ladder pattern than the dad. This makes me think that this is more complicated than recessive or co-dom and is probably a multi-genetic trait, but I am not making any claims yet. I have only one more egg from this pairing, but I believe I have a second gravid.

Wish me luck!

As this being my first post I just wanted to say hello to all... I recently received a pair of amyae with them being my first gecko of this group, nephrurus. Im concerned because i have not seen the female eat at all since obtaining them... I have done my research as to their requirements which i have them in a 16X13X8 glass tank with multiple hides with the cool side being 80 and the warm side 88. I mist the cool side almost once daily and have seen the female lap the droplets on different days... Ive just been misting daily because at least the girl hydrates.
Im not sure if this hinders her from eating but im out of resources for knowledge in his manner... I do plan to seperate them asap by this thursday... I do apologize if this thread seems redundant but i really would like to get some input as to how i can get the female amyae to eat. She still roams the the tank going from the warm side to the cool side and she seems fine but she likes hanging out on the cool side most of the time... Thank you in advance for your input.

As some of you have read in another thread, I recently received a 1.1 pair of levis. They both came in considerably smaller and lighter than what I expected, however both are now on the right path as far as eating and defecating.
I do have a few questions I was hoping those more knowledgeable with levis might answer for me. I currently keep Nephrurus amyae, wheeleri, milii, and of course now the levis.
Everything I have read says they burrow and dig. Neither of mine have burrowed or dug. The female does seal the hide on the cool side sometimes, but that's about it. I mist the cool side every few days, and the sand is moist enough to clump together, yet they simply don't have any interest in digging. How moist should the sand be to promote this behavior, or does providing two hides discourage them from digging burrows since they have ready made shelter?
Another thing that has me concerned is they seem to prefer the warm, dry side over the cool, moist side. The temps on the dry side are 87-89 and the cool side is approximately 74-76. I am worried about dehydration so I added a small water bowl tonight. Will they use this if they need it or should I just stick with misting every few days?
Lastly, they seem to be much more shy in regards to food than my other species. With the others, I just throw in the prey items and they eat them all in quick order. The levis on the other hand seem to get startled by more than one cricket or dubia at a time, which means I am spending more time feeding them than it takes to feed all of my other animals combined. Is it normal for them to be so wary of multiple prey items placed in their enclosure at one time?

Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy them, but they seem much more fragile and labor intensive than any of the other Nephrurus, and I have to wonder if maybe I am not doing something right since they aren't showing the behaviors I have read about in the articles I found relating to their husbandry.
As always, any help or input is appreciated.
