Male
Default 55 gallon trio looking to expand

I currently have 2 females and a male tokays and I am looking at getting another female or two would it be possible or do you all think that I will run into issues with another one or possibly two more females in a 55 gallon tank with plenty of hiding spaces

The problem you will probably run into is the females beating them up. Once you have a pair or trio that get along they will most likely hurt them. I have a bonded pair and if I tried to put another female in with them they would kill her. Your best bet is to just get another pair or trio.

my tokays are bonded too. no other adults allowed. they will attack male and female alike. i had to remove one of the original females because they turned on her once the other female started laying eggs. the babies are all fine.

so no, i would no introduce any others. i would set up another breeding tank. these guys are very aggressive towards others once established. i think breeding just makes it worse. these guys protect their babies and eggs.

Once you get a established trio you should never introduce or take the partner away(unless health reasons) you are better off just to get another pair.

Not meaning to hijack post.
Cliff, Zeus is growin' great. I imagine by summers' end, he'll start calling...So, should I get TWO females to introduce to him??? I ask because I'd like a pair of female hatchlings....
Or, if someone wanted to breed there ladies to mine....

I would actually just introduce one female to him. In my experience pairs do alot better.
