Feeding my Tokay!!!!!

I am having problems feeding my tokay. For my leopards and panther i just put them into a seperat container and put the roaches or crickets in to make sure that i know how much is consumed. I cant do this for the tokay and don't want to just put the crickets or roaches into the terr as i cant monitor the amount consumed. I would really really like to know that my baby is eating,, and eating well at that. Can anyone give me some advice on how they feed their tokays. I would be very thankful and my baby would be more healthy. Thanks

I don't beleive in so closely monitoring food intake. Unless the tank is ginormous your gecko will find the food or he is already unhealthy if he is incapable of doing so. Tokays especially are WILD ANIMALS THAT WANT TO HUNT. The vast majority of Tokays are wild caught and those that are'nt are often F1.

You can monitor mealworms or waxworms fed in a dish if your gecko will eat them.

Tokays like to hunt, I wouldnt put the food in a bowl. Like mh728 said, if your tokays is incapable of hunting food than he is already unhealthy. I dont "bowl feed" any of my geckos. mh728 FYI I have F1 tokays breeding F2 tokays breeding and F3 eggs incubating.

I wasn't denying that there are captive tokays that have been bred multiple generations. I was merely pointing out that most of them are wild caught as opposed to cresties and leos which have been captive bred so much that when you see one, chances are it's CB.

Any tips or ideas about feeding a roach that just digs into the substrate? I don't know what to do. I just spent lots of money getting the dubia up and running and i would really like it if i could feed them to my tokay also. It seems to me at the moment that i will not be able to do that. The tokay eats crickets but at 10c a pop i thought i got my self out of paying that every few days!!! Please help!!!

My U. Lineatus eat Dubia and Lateralis roaches from plastic "gladware" type bowls just fine. I put the bowl in a corner of the enclosure and they dive right down at them. They don't even seem to notice that they're in a bowl. It works especially well with the dubia which would otherwise burry themselves in the substrate.

Ahh, I see. I still like crickets (please don't kill me everyone) so I'm not sure what your dubia's can climb but you could try putting them in a uncovered tupperware container and then put it in the terrarium. If they can climb that then maybe a glass bowl.

i go by the poop, not watching them eat. it is easy to find their poop. the only thing i bowl feed is super worms. i only do that because they climb out and burry them selves. then they turn into those beetles that the gecko never seem to eat.

roaches are food and help keep the cage clean, the latter is the main reason. crickets, supers, the odd pinkie and cultured flies are the main stay of my diet.

tokays will be fine. if they got a nice fat tail then they are eating well.

although nasty poop can tell you a lot about the health of your animal.
