I use a 75 watt Moonbulb for night heating, is a black light similar or is it too bright?

i have heard they can be bad for eyes. however if this is true why do we use them? also i have never read any real studies on this. so i don't know.

i have never used them because of the lack of heat. i prefer the black lights to the red lights as it seems the animals can see the red. also being in my bedroom a red light is a bit distracting to me as well.

Really you dont need to do night heating unless your room gets really cold at night. During the summer my temps will drop to the mid 70s about 75F and during the winter It will drop to about 70-71F. Unless it is getting down in the mid to low 60s at night I wouldnt worry to much about night heating.

The 75 Watt bulb I use is really only for light so I can see the lizards at night, not really for heat. Thought I would try a flourescent black light for more light, but it seems to be too bright and makes their pupils close the same way the bright light does. So I'm not using it.

I really think the best way to view your animals at night is with a pair of night vision goggles. One of these days I am going to get me a pair.

I have a night vision scope (garage sale, 50 bucks...couldn't say no) and it works well for the first hour or so after lights out. After that they get the same temp color as the tank decor/flora.

I actually found a red LED headlamp works great. That's what I use when searching for mourning hatchlings.
