Default n00b tokay question

Hi guys,

I have kept many different species of gecko over the years and i am nearing a time where i am ready to start a serious 1species breeding project. It is essential that i create the perfect environment for each animal

Anyway . . . .

I have read alot into Tokay keeping recently. And from the info i have there is alot of variation in housing description.

Could you all please tell me what you class as a ideal housing enviroment for tokay's, especially the size of enclosure in inches please.

Many thanks, this will be a great help to me.
Chris

Well there is alot of conflict on what is consider a "ideal" tokay housing. You can keep them in 29 gal tanks and they will do fine and some people will tell you no smaller than a 100gal. But bigger is always better. I personally would not go smaller than a 29gal for adults.

..and I personally consider 65g tall to be the very very minimum for a single animal (in fact, 100g would be nicer).
You see...not too much consens.

But do not forget, we are talking about a 1 ft long, 150-300g very agile animal, which roams around a lot at night.

OK, 65g translate into roughly 247 L.
Any tokay enclosure IMHO should be at least 100cm (39,4inches) tall.
A reasonable minimum size is 80 x 50 x 100 cm (31.5 X 19,7 X 39,4 inches). I keep one of my pairs in a tank of axactlx this size and If I compare their behaviour to their relatives in larger tanks nearby, I stick to the point that thats really close to or at the minimum meaningful size.

Hi,

Ive had good luck with the exoterra 18x18x24 tanks with my pairs, everyone eats well and is always running around. I keep the tank at 80's to 90's high humidity never drops 50%. I do live plant set ups so it have a uvb bulb, ceramic heat emitter, and a day bulb on the tanks. I feel like its really important to give them a natural setup with a day and night phase. Feel fre to pm with any questions. Good luck
