Default New Tokay

Hey guys,
I just got a new tokay yesterday. He is in a 10gal tank with lizard litter (edible substrate) and some climbing sticks and such. He has a heat lamp for the day and at night i turn it off. I have two bowls one with water and one i put meal worms in. I have not seen him eat or drink yet so i am a little concern. I know reptiles are pretty tempermental with new homes so I wasn't sure if he is just getting acclimated. Aside from that I have great news! Its kind of funny cause my friends call me the animal whisperer. I have a mean lovebird and my buddy has a chinchilla and all are pretty lax around me. Fortunately by some sort of amazing luck my Tokay gecko is extremely docile. He lets me pick him up and hold him without any problems! He did bark once when some one else put a finger near his mouth, but he seems pretty chill!! thanks for any help1

I got my second Tokay the other day too, and he has yet to eat something. My Female did the same, just keep putting locusts or waxworms (be careful of crickets as they may try to feed on the Gecko) in the enclosure and allow the Gecko to settle in. Don't put too many in, 5 at most as too many bugs may stress the thing out more. I've found that putting an old t-shirt or cloth over the tank helps them feel secure, just be careful it's not near a heating element or restricting the airflow.

Just give it time

Best,
Paul

Ok...when it comes to feeding them only put a couple food items in at a time. leave them over night if they don't eat take them out and don't offer them food again for 2-3 days. If food isn't there all the time they will get hungry and start to get a good feeding response and take advantage of the short time food is there.

Tile is great, if your lizards are indigenous to your bathroom

I got him to eat a little bit today. I held him so his mouth would pop open and i dropped a few meal worms in and he gobbled them up. I am a little worried cause his tail is pretty thin and i notice people were saying that well fed ones should have fat tails. I wonder if his lack of aggression is because he isnt healthy? Maybe i should just give it a few days

He may appear tame, because he is heavily stressed. "Tameness" in a newly aquired tokay should always be seen as a warning. Also 10g is like 10% of the minimum size, I do recommend for tokays. Obviously, these recommendations, which are like standard in Europe are not liked very much in the US, by what reasons ever.
Anyhow, you do live in Europe....
Think about a very active 1 ft 250g lizard. Even 100g restricts running and jumping a lot.
But even the US guys agree on 30g as the bare minimum.
Thus the nmost urgent thing to do is upgrade your tank and leave your tokay alone.
Please do not handle it if not absolutely unavoidable.
