Default White Line Photos

Took some photos of the White Lines. You can see in some of the photos that my female Story is gravid with her second clutch. The first clutch is still in the incubator, and I can see babies starting to grow. Hopefully I will have baby White Lines soon. Let me know what you guys and gals think.

Well after adding more heat(via advice from Sallie, Thanks a bunch!) My female White Line is obviously gravid. I cannot wait to start producing some babies from this species. Here are some pics showing her belly and you can see the eggs, one of these pics is blurry, but you can really see the eggs in it. Also, the reason for the toilet paper rolls: White Lines stick their eggs to the glass normally, or inside cracks or logs. And when that happens you cannot remove the eggs without killing them. So basically you can't incubate them. In which case you have to watch the cage constantly for hatchlings hoping they don't get eaten. So I am experimenting, I am hoping that she will lay the eggs in a toilet paper roll, in that case I can remove them, incubate them safely. We'll see if it works soon enough, she has to lay any day!

Here are some pics of my Male.

Here is a pic of their home.

And then this......

OMFG!! It actually worked!! I woke up this morning. Turned on the reptile lights, and found this......

My female White Line decided to lay her eggs finally. And she actually laid them in the toilet paper roll!! I was really stunned that my idea worked!

Congrats on the eggs. That's cool how she laid them in the tube. My white lines don't have very much of a prominent WHITE LINE nor do they have nice red eyes like yours.

My female should soon be laying her 3rd clutch of eggs. I made the mistake of putting a plastic cup with a bit of sphagnum moss over the first pair and when I thought it was too moist for the eggs I uncovered them and believe the parents ate them. So I'm just leaving her second batch stuck to the glass uncovered. They apparently protect their young but I didn't want to take any chances ... hindsight says bad idea.

I've been puting bamboo poles in my gecko enclosures for them to climb / bask on however after seeing your setup I'm thinking that it may be a good idea to put some sideways so they can get in them and lay eggs. I've been cutting the poles I have to fit the enclosures and then siliconing magnets to the ends of the pole. Then I simply use magnets on the outside of the glass at each end where the pole touches the inside and VOILA. It stays in place and can be (re)moved when necessary. I'm going to start a thread on exactly how I did this when I get everything finished and take some pics.

So good luck with your eggs. I'm not sure how to properly incubate them if you remove them with the tube but I'm sure that somebody on the forum will have an idea!!

I've never owned a Tokay but from what I've heard I would say that White Lines are like a cross between a Tokay and a Day Gecko. I've heard that White Lines can give a good bite but I never try to grab mine as they are lightning fast similar to Day Geckos ... but mostly nocturnal.

Perhaps if you have them from babies and handle them often they may not be so skittish but from what I've read they are a display only animal. For handling I believe that Cresties and Leos are the preferred choices.

My female White Line just laid 2 more eggs last night.

My female is out constantly ... probably checking on her eggs. I very very rarely see the male. In fact I go searching for him once in a while to make sure that he's still OK.

My White Lines do eat CGD regularly though. And another member on here feeds her White Lines CGD as well. The other food source I provide is a bowl of medium mealworms. My White Lines were very easy to get eating off the tweezers also. They also require a heat source. I have a low range heating pad mounted to the back wall of their Vivarium. Their handling is alot different than cresteds though. White Lines are EXTREMELY fast, and VERY smart. If you have one that is skiddish, they can move quite quickly. They will bite if restrained. However, if you work with them regularly and with alot of patience, they are one of the best species I have ever kept and are easy to handle. They get almost as large as a Tokay. They seem to form pair bonds. They are very curious also. Anything that they see that is new to them, they **** their head and look as though they are trying to figure it out. They will follow each other around the Viv also. White Lines will lay their eggs on the glass, in bark hollows, in between leaves, and many other areas. Once these eggs are laid, it is impossible to remove them from their surface without damaging/killing the egg. So basically you can't put them in an incubator. I have found a trick that I started using this year. And so far it has worked with her first clutch she laid. I placed toilet paper rolls throughout the vivarium. Vertically, horizontally, arboreal ones, and terrestrial ones also. My female laid her first clutch in one of the horizontal arboreal rolls. I cut the roll apart so that there is very minimal roll left attached to the eggs, I then placed them in a deli cup with perlite. They are currently growing well, and fertile. I really can't say enough about this species, other than I want more. Another great thing about them, they are extremely inexpensive. Most stores typically price them $20-$30 each. Usually for WC Juvies up to Adults. And I know WC scares most, but both of my White Lines above are originally WC. They are really easy to acclimate. So don't let WC worry you with this species. But if you have the option of WC to CB, take CB as with any species. Sorry for rambling. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I have two white lined and I did happen to get bit once while attempting to remove them so I could clean their home. it did nothing more than startle me. It didn't even break skin, and it never happened again.
