Default looking for advice on golden gecko

A new story entry has been added:

I'm getting a bigger tank and looking for any tips as to what kind of plants I should put in it. Right now he is in a 10 gallon tank w/ a fake plant. I'm looking to turn my new tank into a vivarium for him. Any other advice you think might be helpful I would appreciate also. Thanks in advance.

Hello Permy:
I haven't worked with Goldens as much as I would have liked but I had a female for over five years in a vivarium with live plants. Plants that grow easily in terrariums would include Pothos for sure which is a great plant because it grows like a vine with fairly large leaves which can be trained to cover cage furniture offering the gecko more seclusion. Sanseviaria (snake plant) is another plant that grows well and offers secure hiding places. Bromeliads of the genus Vresia, Neoregelia, Guzmania, and Aechmea (?) all work well in terrariums. These plants also look nice and make the terrarium look good.
Hope this info helps.
Have a Great Day!!!

These are some Hardcore geckos for sure!

I consider them, and dont cringe, the crested geckos of the gekko genus, and maintain them in much the same way. My adult pair are housed in a ten gallon, cypress mulch, branches, a LARGE colony of lobster roaches which breed in there and act as a free-reign food item.
They are also fond of the mrp that is marketed for Rhacodactylus.

Mine survived on American roaches for years, and even now prefer roaches to crix.

Can tolerate low temps into the 50s (pers. experience)

I too am looking to breed these consistently, so any additional info is very much desired.

Its not good for goldens to get into the 50s. Keep them much the same as Tokay and they are pretty easy to breed. They dont come from cold areas so they need kept warmer. I keep my exactly like Tokay and I've never had any problems with them.

Wow, you keep a pair in a ten gallon? That seems very small to me. Especially once you add plants, etc. I have a single male and feel bad keeping him in a viv with twice that space.
