Default Rescued Tokay and her house

Hi there,

I'm new here - still relatively new to geckos; I've had a Garg since September that has been a lot of fun for me.

Well, I recently (this past sunday) rescued a Tokay from a pet store, a female, fairly well grown. She's extremely cranky so her name is Bische.

Here is her house: A 20 gallon long turned on it's side.

No pictures of her just yet, she's pretty uh.. Shy and not so camera receptive. She hasn't started eating yet, no interest at all, but she wasn't in good care at the pet store so I dropped a pinkie in her mouth that she hasn't spit out; not sure if she swallowed it or if she's just holding it in her throat, though.

The temp is about 90 at it's highest, but averages 85 at the top of the cage, where the Zilla combo dome is, and I have a heat pad slapped on the back near the bottom, which she plasters herself against. Night temp drops to 70 - 75, and I keep her well misted.

My question is, she hasn't pooped. I would like to take her in for a fecal float and gen. check up, soon, because I'm certain she has parasites (she is wc, being a pet store tokay), but without poop.. Well I don't really know how to do it. I don't want to wait too long in case the parasites make her sick.. So what should I do?

Thats a really nice setup you have for her. As for the fecal you really need to get her eating first then worry about that. I really do not like putting any type of meds in a animal till I get them eating and settled in a little. It always seems like people get new animals rush them to the vet for meds and then they animal dies two days later. I really think that just has to do with to much stress. I would just worry about getting her to eat and then go from there.

Tile is great, if your lizards are indigenous to your bathroom

Thank you for the response, Cliff!

I'm glad to hear it's not a panic situation. I'll worry about her settling in and eating normally before I take her in. I thought it was one of those, take her the next day, situations.

Is there anything I should be doing differently?

i like the tank set up. I just got a new tokay as well. ive been trying to figure out what to do with the tank set up for mine. Shes in a 10g now, but its okay b/c shes still a small juvi. i like the idea of setting up a long tank on end. how did you seal the front of yours? and is it working well for you now?

Home Depot sells small pieces of plate glass that you can buy for cheap. I buy two pieces and fit them together at the bottom to prevent eco earth from spilling out and water and what not. Cover the edges with something (in my case, silicone topped with moss) because they are razor sharp.

The tank is working well, she's moving around and eating what I put in her mouth, though only with a lot of persuasion. It's a fun set up.

I'm definitely going to check that out, only problem is I'm broke. But I still got a little time before she gets too big for the cage she's in now. how do you like your gargoyle?

My Gargoyle is my baby. I feed him CGD with an eye dropper, he was a little cranky when I first got him, bit me a few times, but he's settlled in beautifully.

He's a pale retic, so pretty nice coloring, he gets real dark when it's damp.
