Default Tokay Question

Is Dark colored Tokays Stressed or just juvenile coloration??? Ive been wanting to get a Tokay for some time but whenever i go to the expo all the Tokays are like black and red or DARK blue and Red. I always thought it was stress but then i just saw a thread that had a picture of a Dark Tokay and no one was saying that the tokay was stressed or anything and someone said that they also had a young dark colored tokay. Are they Stressed or No??

Usually dark coloration is a stressed tokay. There are some that are just naturally dark. At a reptile show you are not going to find anything but stressed animals there. Just because they are a little stressed does not mean there is anything wrong with them if they look healthy other then being a little dark.

Yea i kinda figured theyd be stressed since alot of the small time breeders have up to 10 tokays in a deli cup. Are Tokays a cool Gecko to Keep? Like Are they active and see them much or are the always Hiding never coming out for anything? I think they would be cool to have due to the color and size... They seem to me like theyd be a lot cooler to have then small geckos that never come out of hiding..

Exactly what small geckos are you talking about that never come out of hiding? I keep Phelsuma and they are pretty small and I see them out all the time.

WC tokays will hide more than cb, if you want one that will hang out more get a cb. They will be shy for a while but after time you will see them out all the time.

Im Talking about my Med. Geckos.. They come out at about Midnight and stay out for at the most 2 hours.. If its not between Midnight and 2am they are cramed in the smallest wedges of the Branches.. Tokays I'll atleast be able to find and not think they escaped.. On a Scale from 1-10 (1 being begginer and 10 being very expirienced) What do you think the experience level to keep a tokay Would be??

Tokay are very hardy and pretty forgiving of beginner mistakes. However, you have to be aware that they do tend to bite and it does hurt. Many people purchase them and then when they find out they can't handle them like a leopard gecko, they get rid of them. Check your local craigslist and you're likely to find a slew of them up for adoption. Sounds like a crested gecko might be more what you're looking for.

That really depends on how often you feed your animals. I feed mine every other to every 3rd day. If I missed two feedings they would be going over a week without eating. Some people feed every day (in my opinion that is to much) so if you missed two feedings you would only be missing a couple days without food which will not hurt them at all.
