Default My new tokay

Well I was at Petco Wednesday getting a rat for my snake and as always I went to look at the reptiles. Low and behold they had two tokays. My original plan was to wait till the expo down here in June, but I couldn't resist. The guy said he didn't want to take them out and looked at me like I was nuts when I just stuck my hand in with them. I was hoping to get a gaping mouth to check health but got too close and it bit me instead. Oh well, no blood. Tried the other one with the same result. After looking them over I told him to give me the first one that bit me. So here's the pics.

Is this a good enough shot to tell male or female?

Snapped this one kinda quick as I was putting it in its tank.

I've got it in a 12x12x18 exoterra as a temporary enclosure till the 40gal is finished. It's got plenty of room and hiding places. I'll take pics of the temp tank later.

The other tokay didn't have any stripes on it's tail at all. Its tail was the same pattern as its back. Is that just a natural variation? Most tokays I see have the stripes on the tail.

Im guessing it's a regenerated tail. It normally grows up again without the original patterns.

Thank you all. Are you sure she's an adult? She doesn't look very big to me, at least not as big as I expected an adult tokay to be.

I saw her out and about the first night in her tank but since then she's been hidden even at night. I put about 10 lateralis in yesterday about an hour before lights out. I heard her chase one after I turned out the lights so I'm hoping she's eating.

I noticed this morning my temp/humidity gauge stopped working and a new battery didn't help. Wal-Mart has some that has a probe you put outside and the reader is inside. Are those accurate and will it work for the tank? I don't know the brand names.

Thanks I'd never noticed a tokay like that. The tail looked normal besides the pattern so I'm guessing they don't regenerate ugly tails like leopard geckos.

No problems!

Well, the tails usually grow with the normal shape, just the colors change.
She looks like an adult, it doesn't mean she is full grown...just that she is mature.
