With Fish kind of happens the same thing. I worked in an Aquarium for years and as Fish arrived from an importation sometimes they looked just like they were dead. It is in part becuase of the shock and poor conditions (cold water, lack of Oxigen, etc). We just had to give 'em some time in better conditions and they started acting normal as Ophidiophile said.
