Default Good arboreal caging?

Hi everyone,

I am wondering if screen cages can be used for members of the gekko genus? I have some 24" x 24" x 48" screen cages, and dimension-wise they would be perfect. I know they don't hold humidity as well, but I was going to get a trough for the bottom and plant some tropical plants in a bio-active substrate. I also have a humidifier.

If screen cages don't work, where do you get good glass or plastic arboreal cages? The only ones I see are 24" inches tall, and after I add 5" of substrate that is about 19-20 inches climbing height, which does not seem like enough. I've read that for these animals to be happy they need at least 4x their length in climbing height.

Appreciate the feedback,

Jeff

I have a 20 Long tank that I have turned vertical for my Tokay. It's still a work in progress but hopefully will be complete shortly. It's not a permanent solution, but will give me time to build a larger cage for when he grows larger

Jason does indeed make some nice enclosures. The other thing that you might consider is making your own. Many of us use either fish tanks turned vertical or rubbermaid tubs made into enclosures. If you're handy, there's lots of various ways to go about making them. And the effort is half the fun IMO.

Thanks for the advice guys--I am probably going to go the DIY route. I am not handy with tools but I bought a reptile cage making book and am looking forward to learning. It actually seems like it might be kind of fun.

It's a lot of fun and keep in mind that we have both a DIY forum and a Naturalistic Vivarium forum right here on GU for questions that you might have.
