Default Tokay Gecko Passed Away

As some of you may know i have been making posts concerning the health of my female tokay gecko. She passed away last night. I just recently found out she was wild caught. The reason i am making this post is not to discourage the purchase of wild caught animals but to raise awareness. Tokays are notorious for being wild caught and are usually pretty cheap. These animals usually come infested with worms, diseases and usually serious health problems. I took her to the vet and got a fecal exam which came negative for worms. Her health didnt improve at all over time. She was in deplorable conditions at her formal home and i bought her to hopefully rehabilitate her. I did everything necessary to house the gecko but nothing worked. She wouldnt eat, drink, or even climb. Please, if you buy a wild caught tokay, crestie, leo, or whatever kind of gecko take them to the vet immediately or you can play it safe and buy a captive bred. Either way you should still pay a visit to your local veterinarian.

Sorry about your loss. It always sucks to lose an animal. Wild caught animals often seem like a bargain. But it's always best to go with captive bred. It may cost a bit more up front, but in the end, it'll save you a lot of money and work. Also, the more people buy captive bred animals, the less demand there is for wild caught.

Sorry to hear that. Yes go to the vet ASAP with any new pet. I just got 2 Tokays from a pet store and turns out they have worms, many kinds actually. Now on meds and hopefully make a full recovery.
