Default 2 Female Tokays (Need advice)

[[/i][/i][/i]
Ok, so I have had my 2 Tokays for about 2 weeks now and they seem to have settled in and are eating just fine. One of the girls is doing very well... She's very active, eats a lot, and doesn't mind me touching her. My bf actually pulled her out today and she was FINE! Wow, I was very happy and excited. They are still pretty slim (how I got them) but are eating.

I am worried about my 2nd Tokay... She seems to stay in her hide literally all day and all night. She doesn't come out to drink water or to eat and simply waits for the crickets to come to her. I watch them eat so I know she does. Last night I decided to check on her and lifted her hide and noticed she was very dark and discolored unlike her other friend who is a lot brighter and healthier looking. Could it be that they actually don't like eachother and just stay away from one another? "Missy" (healthier looking Tokay) hangs out on the glass right under the heat lamp all day and only comes down at night. I'm not worried about her since I know they are nocturnal. I had 2 hides and a fake plant in their set up but she doesn't use them at all and prefers to hang out on the glass instead of hiding although she does go into the hide once in a great while with my other Tokay.

Just want to know if this is normal behavior and if I should be worried about any of this. Should I seperate them? Or is this just their own personal Tokay personalities?

Sounds like she's pretty stressed. I'd separate them and see how she does. I bet you'll see a change in behavior. However, do keep in mind that some are just more shy than others. It may take her a fair amount of time to acclimate.

I think you should definitely separate. Take the sickly tokay to the vet.

Thank you so much guys... The only info. I got from their previouse owner is that he had had them for 4 years and the pet shop he got them from had them for 1 so they have to be at least 5 years old and they have been together those 5 years. I have thought about seperating them but didn't want to "stress" them by taking eachother away. BUT I am going to seperate them for a while and see how they react to the change. I am going to look for a reptile specialist but first want to ask you guys if anyone knows of a good reptile specialist here in San Diego. I am very low on income and would like a place where I can do payments of some sort and if not, I will have to give her away to someone who will be able to provide her with the medical attention she needs. = ( Thanks again!

The most important thing to have checked is to have their feces checked for internal parasites. Most tokays are loaded with them. This should be able to be done quite cheaply. This list might help you find a vet: Herp Vet Connection

Hey guys! Just wanted to update you on my Tokay Geckos... This whole time I was assuming my Tokays were both female. They had been kept together for 5 YEARS with no eggs and no fighting (atleast in my possestion there was no fighting) so I assumed they were both female.

I was working on taming my geckos and one day decided to pull one out and try it, one of them had no problem with it and was totally cool with me holding "her". I decided to sneak a peek just to see if it was really female and she turned out be a he! I was very surprised so I looked over at the other Tokay and thought "Hm, could it be?" So I had my bf pull the other one out (that one was very aggressive) and took a peak and "she" also ended up being a he! No wonder they were both so stressed and kept away from one another... I'm thinking the one that stayed out all day was the dominent male since he was the one eating most of the food and walked around the whole set up. Poor guys... So I seperated them and re-homed the other. The guy who I gave the other Tokay to tells me he is doing great and is even barking like crazy. "Mr." the Tokay I have now, is as happy as can be and now comes in and out of his hide. I am so glad they are both happy and am glad to report it aswell. = )

So now I have 1 Tokay "Mr.", 2 Cresties "Ace" and "Nani", 1 Leopard Gecko (just got him a couple of days ago), 5 Fire Belly Toads "Fatty" "Goliath" "Brownie" "The Twins", and will be gettin another Crestie tonight. So happy that my babies are happy! = ) Thank you!
