calico x calico update...
Ok so, here's the latest photo of one of my captive bred calico x calico juvies. It's looking like this one is a female. She started off looking completely normal. And she's been slowly loosing her red spots with each shed. At this point she's pretty much completely lost all of her red except the few spots on her head that are left. No patches of calico white spots yet. But if you look at her head, the black is fading which I assume is going to lead to the "peach" colored head that is part of the calico trait. I think she's beautiful now as she is. But hopefully she'll continue toward showing more and more "calico-ness".

Also, the mother is a melanistic (black) calico and the father is a pale blue calico. So it will be interesting to see which way this one goes. So far, the black has been what's taken over the red. Who knows though...maybe I'll get really lucky and she'll turn into a full blown leucistic.

Here's a sibling calico x calico to the one above. This one has been getting darker and darker. But instead of loosing the red like the one above, it's been losing the blue.

The last one you posted is the same coloration of mine. I know nothing about morphs, so how common is this coloration?

It depends on if it stays dark like that all the time (genetic), or if it's just dark due to being stressed. The animal pictured stays dark like that and comes from a melanistic (black) calico mother. So, presumably it's going to continue to become more and more black and then develop calico traits (white spots).
Here's a picture of the mother. Hopefully it will continue to change to look like her:

I don't believe it's stress. She eats pretty well, poops regularly, likes to hang out on the side of the tank, and doesnt seem stressed.

There's really only one way to prove it out as genetic...breed it. Mine is different in that it was produced by two genetic morphed parents (calicos). So it's a pretty fair bet that it's dark coloration is a result of the mother being melanistic.

Wow!
So first let me say I have been traveling a lot in the past 6 months and haven't been here in a while -- it's good to be back and a bit stable for a while.
Second let me say wow, wow, wow! Ethan that animal is CRAZY. Doesn't look like either of the parents much ( but you're right, it's probably the melanistic mother's influence) nor any other offspring. But I have basically sold all I've produced before they've gotten to that size so who knows what the others look like! I did have two babies begin to get white flecks at around 15 months but then I sold them too. I suspect they went on to get more though. Now I'm back to just having babies and juvies again. I'll probably hold back a few of those juvies just because of your photo.
Congrats on a killer looking animal!
