Default Sick White Lined Gecko

I just yesterday was a pet store that was housing a White Lines Gecko in with 2 Golden's, a Marble and a White Spotted Gecko. All of the other Geckos were larger and more aggressive and looked healthy but the White Lined is very thin (can see ribs) and his mouth is crooked. I decided to take him home and try and give the poor guy a chance and took him into my pet store for help. Ive got him on a Vitamin D3 supplement with Electrolytes and am dusting all of his crickets and worms and have a UV light on him. I also got him some strawberry baby food. His new home has coco fiber and sphagnum moss with 3 different hide spots. I am wondering if anyone has any other suggestions on what I can do for this guy to get him healthy as quick as possible. Thanks soo much any opinions or advice is appreciated!

Keep in mind that these guys don't tend to like to hang out on the floor very much. So make sure you provide it with some vertical hide spots. PVC tubes work well. I also use slate tiles leaning upright against the wall so they can hide behind them. Paper towel tubes can be used but don't tend to last very long. Cork bark placed vertical works well too.

When I got my White Line, she was very thin, it took 2 weeks before she got used to her new home. Once she started eating the krikets I intoduced her to Mealworms, four months later she is a fat cat! If yours is eating it is on the right track.

Good luck,

He was eating crickets but has stopped soi removed all the crickets and am just trying chicken and strawberry baby food. I picked him up the other day to give him his d3 drop and his skin was rougher than when I got him and I dont know if this is a good or bad thing. I went through his home and removed all the crickets that were hideing and I have cut back his UV a bit. Cause Im wondering if he is stressed or sunburnt? Any suggestions???

Cut the UV down to zero, they do not need it at all.

Figure out what the current humidity and temperature is at right now and ramp them to the proper levels over a 48 hour period. If your not too far off now this should go pretty easy.

I'd stop with the D3 drops for the moment, what is the concentration by the way? I know some are in the range of 2000IU per drop, at that level you are inviting vitamin D3 toxicity.

Symptoms of D3 toxicity are similar to those of MBD and include a marked loss of appetite, vomiting, also a general failure to thrive.

The condition of D3 toxicity is called (Hypervitaminosis D3) it leads to higher levels calcium in the blood which in turn leads to calcification of soft tissues which make normal movement such as walking difficult, and many more issues.

thanks for your reply. I actually dont have a thermometer but im going to get 1 tonight. The D3 says it has 350,000 UI per Litre. Should I still stop it completely? I was told by the pet store that the UV was needed for his body to process the calcium but I can move the light so it isnt on him and is just on my other geckos. Thanks again for your help!

Yes stop the drops and uvb. Just lightly dust the feeder insects with calcium plus d3.
