Smile white line subspecies

I remember on here a while back someone mentioning they thought there may be different subspecies of white line gecko, i was wondering if there was any truth to this?
I ask because at the minute i have 1 male and 2 females, the male looks like a typical white lined and has the 3 white bars on his tail and is quite sleek looking, whereas both of the females are darker (more of a brown) in colour, and despite being roughly the same age are alot larger than the male, and instead of a 3 barred tail they have one white bar, then the end 2/3 of the tail is a solid white/brown, also i have seen them mate several times but produce no babies so wondered if anyone had any more information on this?

cheers

So far, there are no accepted subspecies of G. vittatus.
However, specimens from different populations can differ a lot in size, in colouration and also in behavior.
Thus, I am more than convinced that a careful revision of the species will lead to the establishment of at least three subspecies, maybe even species.
Just think about G. nutaphandi, which morphologically mainly differs from G. siamensis by its red instead of green eyes. Maybe the red eyed vittatus are genetically as distant from the golden eyed ones as nutaphandi is from siamensis. And what about the vocal, small sized almost stripeless vittatus. And the doubloe striped.. and the giants...

A lot to discover.

Best

Default cheers

thankyou for the reply it was very interesting
i see what you mean though the same seemed to happen alot with several uroplatus species, if they are different species do you think this would lead to unsuccessful breeding?

thanks
