Golden Gecko (in 2 hours)
Hello guys!
I will be getting a Golden Gecko in a few hours from someone who is moving and not able to take him with. According to the Craigslist posting, he is a very calm and non-aggressive guy and has been handled quite often.
I have 2 Tokay Geckos and from my research it seems that their care is pretty much the same. I have my Tokays in a 40 gallon tall (I think) and they seem to be happy in that. The Golden Gecko is going to be given to me with tank, set-up, and accessories but I have not seen that yet.
My question is, is there anything I should or need to know about this wonderful species that I will not find in just any caresheet?
Here is the picture of him I got from the ad.

Well, by the pic he's a male and well fed. Care is identical to a tokay, except ulikovksii really like fruit as part of their diet.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

I have a golden that I adopted and he's great. Much more mellow personality than an average tokay. But yes, similar care. As Kevin said, give 'em some fruit too. I've been keeping my eyes out for a nice female for mine so I can breed them. But haven't really had much luck so far.

I have read that they are pretty aggressive toward one another even if they are of opposites sexes or two females. I was also thinking of finding a female as a companion but think he'll do fine alone.
This guy is very good looking and a little overweight... I was thinking of putting him on a small diet, or should I let him be? His previouse owner gave me what he had of his food and i'm guessing all he was fed are Giant Mealies. I personally don't feed any of my geckos meal worms and only use crickets and on occasion wax worms. I feed my Tokays a monthly pinkie and they love me for it. Lol!
This guy was given to me in a FILTHY 10 gallon tank and I am very upset that this little guy had to live in those conditions for I don't know how long. = / Well, hopefully I will be able to get a hold of an at least 20 gallon tall. I'm very excited to make this guy happy!

Oh and i'll keep an eye out for a female for you if you'd like. I have gotten all of my babies from Craigslist from people who are not able to care for them or from people who simply get tired of their pets. Most I have gotten without an adoption fee with set-ups... If I get lucky enough and run into a female, I will definately let you know. = )

In large groups kept in small cramped conditions (i.e.: POS pet shops) they tend to be so stressed that males will "get along with each other," but once they're well established in their own tank, they are aggressive towards others. Males are highly aggressive towards other males and females, once bonded to a male, will be aggressive towards other females. Also, once a pair is bonded, females will become aggressive towards other males as well.
I made the mistake of trying to set up a trio once my pair was bonded. My dominant female killed the new one after a week.
PM sent about a tank.

Yes, the care for the Goldens are very similiar to the Tokay. I have a tip though, feed him sweet potato baby food. They love it! It is high in Beta Carotene, making mine really bright. They are awesome!

Will the Sweet Potatoe work for Tokays too? I'm going to pick some up when I go to the grocery store. I like to mash my geckos fruits instead of using canned baby foods...

Golden gecko not eating
hi, About 1 month ago I pick up a gloden gecko, female. When I got her home she no problem eating drinking ect. Then about 2 weeks go by and I pick up another GG, male. I wash tank out, new beding, move around veg, and added another hide. Couple of days go by and I notice my male is not eating, FM is still eating, same as before. This next part makes me mad to say, So while I was at work my dum ass roommate' buddy has a look inside my GG tank, looks inside, cant see anything and wounders why theres nothing in the tank. So dumass opens the tank and I guess the FM jump out. happy happy joy joy to me. So I have a really big old house, 5 beds rooms, 12 foot cellings and tons of places to hide. The poor thing is in the house, no heat, light system, no food, or water per-say, just what I put out at nite. Long story short, she was missing for about 2 weeks. I nurse her back to health to the point where she was climbin, walk, sticink to things, drink water. Here is my problem. WHILE SHE WAS GONE I THOUGHT THAT THE MALE WOULD EAT, NO DICE. NOW ITS BEEN O, GOOD COUPLE WEEKS MAYBE A ,MONTH SINCE THE MALE OR FEMALE HAVE EATIN. i DID HAVE MEALWORMS, CRICKETS. BUT THEY JUST DIE BEFORE ANYONE EATS THEN . RIGH NOW THE ONLY THING THEY WELL EAT IS A BIT OF BABY FOOD. tHEY JUST STAY IN THERE HIDE. iV WATCH IN THE DARK FOR HOURS AND SETUP CAM TO SEE FOR ANY ACTION. NOTHING. CAN ANYONE HELP
