Well this is my first gecko and they guy at that pet shop said these were good for beginners so i got it. Its a greenish gold color with a little brown. I got it last thursday and on saturday i went to take him out to hold him and he escaped and i finally caught him after a couple minutes. How long does it take for them to not try to escape? He bit the guy at that the pet shop so im hesitant to pick him up. i dont know if he's eating his crickets aswell. what do there poop look like? And how do you get a mean golden gecko to like handling?

I'm obviously not a gecko pro or anything, but I'd hardly consider a Golden as, "good for beginners".......

Golden geckos, as most herps are animals to watch and not to handle.
Even though they can get used to being handled, this will always cause stress and they will never "like" it. Also they are just not capable of bonding to persons. So better leave the gecko alone and be content watching its fascinating behaviour.
And yes, golden geckos are relatively easy to care for and good for beginners.
If you provide a heavily planted 20g or bigger vertical tank with lots of vertically oriented hidings, mist this thing in the mornings and evenings and provide a balanced diet, including calcium and vitamine supplements, you will have a happy gecko for 10 to 15 years.

Yes I dont think they are great for beginners but you have him. Ok here's the deal with some of these guys. Goldens along with others like white lined and tokays are pretty flighty unless they have had human contact since they were young. Unfortunately you made a poor choice as far as if you want an animal that you can hold frequently. Most gg's in the pet store are wild caught. Meaning he's wild and he will stay that way unless he gets uses to you over a Long long period of time. Either way. Right now you just got him home. You need to let him acclimate to his new surrounding. So leave him alone for a couple weeks. This possibly could be the reason why he's so flighty but I don't think this is the case. While he's so flighty be careful opening and closing the tank try not to go near him too fast and if you do go near him which he's in the tank shield him from running out with your other hand. I dont know what your setups like but he's going to want alot of tree coverage to hide behind. The silk suction plants work great. Put as many as you can in his tank on the wall and he will start
To feel more secure. Poops are going to look like poo. Hard oblong shaped brown things with a white piece on the end. That's the pee.

By nature Goldies tend to be very shy geckos....I dont handle mine and I think that they are happier for it.

Another defence mechanism they have is to poo on your hand when you try handle them....

Look at the v of preanal pores above it's cloaca. If there's lg holes and wax coming out it's a male you should be able to see the hemipenial bulges aswell and if not It's a female.
