Smile Easy fix.

Posted some ?,s about feeding my Tokay and got some good responses. didn't know about tank feeding her but i found a simple but good solution to her getting some substrate in her mouth while feeding. took and old milk jug (washed of course) and cut just the top of with an exacto knife. tapped it to the side of the tank. put the crickets in there. didn't know if she would like it or not or would find them. left her alone for about an hour or two while i played some video games. went to check on her and boom she was hanging on the inside while about half the crickets were gone. Simple and cheep. just thought it might help someone out.

Glad that you found a solution. Tokay are active hunters, so it's pretty easy to get them to eat from a container. And once they figure out that the food will be there on a regular basis, they keep coming back to it every night to look for food. This works really well when feeding dubia roaches which tend to bury themselves in substrate. If they're in a plastic container, they can't bury and makes it much easier for the tokays to snatch 'em up. And a full grown dubia makes for a far bigger, better meal than any crickets.

B. lateralis are good as are dubia. Dubia are probably the best choice for tokay as they get quite large and they can't climb. The downside to dubia is they like to bury themselves in the substrate. However, if you're feeding from a container, they won't be able to bury themselves.

I feed lobsters. And they climb quite fast. But I like the fact that they have a good meat to shell ratio and they get quite large. To counter act the climbing I stick the container in the freezer for a bit and then put them in feeding containers with the ca d3 dust. Theyre not frozen but pretty slow and even when their bodies are warm it takes them a min to get back on their feet. The feeding containers are pretty shallow so the toks aren't climbing in but I keep a ring if petroleum jelly around the top to stop the roaches from climbing out.

I feed mine dubia, lateralis and lobsters, i think lateralis and lobsters are better because adult dubia females tend to have alot of shell which is harder to digest

Lobsters make good feeders...I just don't like breeding them. The fact that they climb is a huge negative IMO. (...and yes, I know about petroleum jelly around the top of the enclosure etc.)

I agree Ethan, the fact that there is a chance Lobsters can escape is too much for me. I currently feed Dubia and everything seems to be going just fine. I use a shallow plastic dish, roaches can’t climb out and the Geckos get to them easily.

Thanks for the input guys. Dont know what Im going to get yet. gonna do so more research. I just know that i Calculated up how much it cost each month to feed my beardie and tokay and it was almost 300$. this was pet shop prices. just got a thousand in from fluckers though. only 30$. that should last them a while. ? if i put vaseline on my tokays feeder jug. do you think it will hurt or effect her climbing ability?

Honestly, just go with Dubia. It's so much easier than worrying about the whole lobsters climbing issue. And, the big adults are perfect for feeding off to your dragon.
