Default Tokay Gecko help

Its a great day finally I have a gecko from a local pet store here in my place. I was wondering if I could get some help. My tokay gecko is already inside its reptile cage. I was trying to feed him with a ****roach but it seems its not eating it. I would like to ask for some advice on what to feed it as a start. Is there any circumstances that this is not eating since I move it in a new place?

Thank you guys for your help.

Kristine ~

It is not unusual at all for a gecko not to eat for several days after settling into a new home.

I moved your post to the tokay subforum where you will be able to get lots of help, if needed.

How many days will it be? Any signs if my gecko is starving so I can feed em. What should I feed him . I am just worried because I don't want it to die.

Default Don't worry to much.

I agree with Elizabeth. it might take up to a week even two for them to get acclimated to their new environment. I just recently got a Tokay about a week ago and she didn't eat for the first few days. I've read online and have been told by a friend of mine that they like to hunt and not really be feed. I put about twenty or so crickets in the tank at night and just let them roam. That was at first. She would be on the side of the glass and attack down at them when she saw them. she would get a little substrate in her mouth and that worried me. I just took an old milk jug and cut the top off of it where the sides start going straight. Put the crickets or roaches in it and duct tape it to the side of the tank. mine even after one night knows that the crickets are there when I put it in. good luck and I'm sure it will be fine.

They aren't partial to tong feeding. Also you are going to find that the take a week or two to become accustomed. In this time leave him completely alone. If he's a healthy animal he won't starve himself to death. We tend to meddle with them too much and that leads to stress. So after a few days of acclimating offer a few crickets to see if he'll eat. Just dust them and throw them into the cage. If he doesn't eat leave them in there, if he does put in a few more. If he poops take that out of the cage and get a fecal check done by a vet within 24 hours. This will check him for parasites and since you got him from a Petstore there is a high likelyhood of this. He may need a dewormer to become fully healthy.
Beyond that keep his husbandry perfect and leave him alone.

I am wondering about the natural feeding response here. If the tokay does not eat the crickets within a few hours, might it be better to remove the crickets so that they do not stress the gecko and then try feeding with phosphorous-free calcium with D3 the next day?

A healthy (or even semi-healthy) tokay will not rest on the floor or in areas where the crickets might stress them. You wouldn't want to leave 100 crickets in with them. But a handful should be fine.

Thank you for your help. I will surely feed mine with ****roach. I was in the pet store yesterday asking questions and I also inquired for some crickets but they don't have it, right now they only have superworm.

Other than roaches any other foods so I can add it to his tank?

(Not about other foods.) What type of calcium and multivitamins have you to dust his prey? I like the Rep-Cal brand. Need phosphorous-free calcium with D3, pure calcium, and a multivitamin.
