Question Tokay help?? Total Newb

I have two beautiful tokay geckos that i've had for about two months now, one male and one female. They have been doing amazing and entertaining me until two weeks ago. I went into the hospital for a week and my family was taking care of my pets. They said that they followed all my directions for feeding and switching the lights around, but ever since I've been home I notice my female isn't hunting as much as she used to and she in often on the floor of the terranium. She isn't loosing weight yet, but her colour has gotten alot darker. Is this normal at all? possibly just a phase? any advice at all is greatly apreciated, it just wanna be a good gecko mommy. Thanx

Sounds like a possible calcium problem or she's in a shed and doesn't have enough humidity. What's your setup like?
What's your husbandry like?
What is your calcium schedule?
What kind of calcium?

They are in a 20x20x20 terranium, average humidity is 75% but if I end up working a long shift it will drop to 60% since I don't make it home to mist them, next pay day I'm going to buy a fogger. I have been using the calcium every other feeding, and I'm feeding them every other day. I'm using repashy calcium plus (that is what the breeder recomended) and gut loading my crickets with the repashy superload

I'm still trying to find a blance between my temperature and theirs ( they are in my bedroom, which gets hot) so it is usually between 70 and 80, but I know I need to get more variance at night.

What kind of calcium? Regular ca or ca with d3? If your temps are 80 during the day it's way to cold. They need a good steady temp of like 90 and at night they can have a drop into room temps. Your humidity sounds decent. If you are feeding every other day and using ca every other feeding it's too little ca. I feed every other day and use at least ca every feeding and use the ca with d3 every other feeding. Which means ca with d3 2x weekly and the other 2 feedings it's regular ca.

I just looked up The repashy ca formula. I've never used it so I dont know about it. I prefer to have the separate calciums. It's easier for me. Also I noticed that it has phosphorus in it. Phosphorus can block calcium absorption. So I'm not sure if this is part of the problem you are seeing. But it may be. This is why I get regular ca and ca w/d3 without phosphorus. Crickets I believe are already high in phosphorus and thus is why we need to have ca without phos.

Thank you for the feed back. Next time I'm in the city I will look for seperate calciums and I have added another light for the day time for them. The past couple days she has been climbing more and her colour is quite light at night and first thing in the morning.

The separate calciums that the hotchik1000 (Morgan) speaks of are the RepCal brand. The Beanfarm carries them online. Maybe Amazon.com too?

Thanks Elizabeth! I always forget to give brands. Actually for regular calcium I use crushed tums and for the d3 cal I use Flukers. But it all
Works the same!
Good to hear she's acting a bit more normal. I'd definately stay away from calcium with phosphorus in it.

I would recommend getting something way bigger than what you have like you will read Tokays really will use their space, mine loved to roam all around hang out everywhere when we moved she got very very stressed, and we ultimately lost her My day temps were always mid 90s and i just used my red 100 watt infrared bulb at 7 months old she was in my exoterra 18x18x24 and I was in the process of getting her permanent home.Protean Glass 24x24x5'...

as my room is really warm and humid during the day, thanx to fish, plant, and now the lizards, i have been letting them run free in my room for a bit in the late afternoon when I get home from work, my room is barren and there is no where yet for them to totally disappear in. This seems to be making a big change as well as the change in calcium, I am now using tums and the flukers, as this is easiest for me to get. I have not had a chance to get a good light to increase the temps in one side of the cage, that is tomorows project.

Apparently my little girl is actually quite blue when she lightens up, almost powder blue. Hopefully will get pics up soon
