Default New granite female

Thanks to the fine folks at Switzer Reptiles, I have just received a beautiful new female blue granite tokay. She's much prettier blue when she's happy, but you can get a sense of her here. I'm also attaching a picture of how friendly she is. Just can't wait to find her a mate.

Kris

She's a beauty Kris! She looks a lot like mine but yours has spots on her head and mine doesn't (which is kind of an interesting difference to note). Have you put your high red couple together yet?

Thanks for the feedback, Ethan. I noticed the same thing about the head spots being different between ours. the spots on mine's head are paler than the rest of the body, and I wonder if there may be some kind of change ongoing in which they're fading out. I guess the only way to see is wait and watch as she sheds. The whole business of understanding Tokay color and pattern genetics with all the changes they go through is totally fascinating.

My two high reds are together in their big Neodesha arboreal now. He's stopped barking, which I hope is a good sign. They come out to bask under their light in the morning a bit, but are very quick to hide in their bamboo. I'm not sure how I would even notice eggs without taking the cage apart. In that respect it's really nice that they'll hatch the eggs in-cage without eating them.

I also just picked up a couple of Florida WC females that look to have some really nice coloring (though not with the hypo elements that the others seem to have). I thought they'd be an interesting project, especially to test if the color of the pair I already have is directly heritable or not. The new girls are in quarantine and are on the second dose of Panacur, already putting on some nice weight and hydrating. I can't wait for them to settle in and start showing true colors. I'll post some pics once that happens.

Kris
