Default Tokay habitat ?'s

1) What other wildlife can you put with Tokays?

2)If you put a small water hole in the bottom with some fish, would the Tokays eat them?

3)Can Goldens stay with Tokays throughout their whole life?

4)Is it ok to have two females and one male together?

5) Do Tokays like going high up in their habitats?

6) Do they like waterflow, like a waterfall?
I plan to have a stream going from the top to the bottom of my tank, it will either be 36" or 66" tall.

I appreciate all help!

1. A tokay will eat pretty much anything it can fit inside it's mouth. Not to mention, diseases, parasites, etc. Multiple species enclosures are not recommended.

2. Likely the fish would become expensive tokay food.

3. Likely that sooner or later you're going to end up with a dead Golden. Keeping a golden with tokay is going to do nothing but stress both species. Again, multiple species enclosures are really not the way to go.

4. You can usually house a male with two females. However, the females will eat each others eggs. So, if you're planning on breeding, you much better off keeping your animals either individually and rotating the male to different enclosures for breeding, or in 1.1 pairs.

5. Yes, tokay are arboreal. They prefer a tall enclosure.

6. A waterfall will be fine. It will help keep the humidity levels up inside the enclosure. Just make sure that it's set up to be easy to keep clean, etc.

Thank you so much!
I think I will just stick with one male and one female then.
Maybe later on when I can afford morphs I will keep multiple Tokays all in different habitats.
If they eat fish I wouldn't mind! I can breed fish no problemo! haha
As long as it's healthy it's ok, different protein source right?

Beware that most fish from pet stores are loaded with antibiotics and the water is usually full of chemicals. These things are not good for the tokay. I would only use fish that are bred personally in clean water with no chemicals.

You're right, it's difficult to figure out what most fish stores use. I am going to try and raise some kind of platy or molly to put in. We'll see when the time comes!

Another question for you Ethan! haha

I was telling my friend about my lighting scheme and he brought up how some lizards/geckos can see blue/red. Would blue led's be a bad idea for night illumination? Can they see the color blue?

Default Geckos and fish

Goldfish in particular have chemicals inside them - or something like that - which makes them unsuitable for consumption. I feed my green basilisk feeder guppies and minnows from time to time and so far nothing has gone wrong. But then I am not sure whether geckos do and/or can eat any kind of fish. Fish are better for creatures that live at least partially in the water and AIUI Tokays aren't semi-aquatic.

Just my two cents.

Tokay's love being high in their habitat. Off plenty of things for them to climb on. You can use natural plants as well to increase humidity. Cypress mulch, moss, fake plants and bamboo will be your best friend for making an eye pleasing and ideal habitat for your tokay.

Ethan, I have a buddy that keeps 1.2 Tokays as a group and has no issues with the girls eating the eggs. Have you actually seen that happen?

I've experienced it personally and there are many others who have as well. The girls get along just fine. But they definitely can/will eat each others eggs.
