Default Hatchling help!

Alright. Now that Ive got my two tokay hatching in separate tanks from the momma im afraid one isnt eating. I put 10 of the smallest dubia roaches I could find in both there tanks in the past few nights. Thing 1 did not eat any last night but three both 2 past nights. Thing 2 I dont think has eaten anything since it hatched. saw thing 2 licking water of the side of the glass last night though. So i think its still healthy.

Are dubia roaches just not moving enough to attract the little guys or do you think that they are still adjusting. I use little milk jug bottoms to put the roaches in so i dont have to scour the tank to find out how many they have eaten.

As always advise is always appreciated.

Cool he'll be fine

i was worried because i too have a hatchling tokay. mine wouldnt eat for a week so i got baby food and dabbed it on his nose everyday. he would lick it it off instinctively so he was eating something. and i kept offering live food. mine would also do the same thing as yours, it licked the crickets i put in but wouldnt eat. hes is now 2 and a half weeks and is eating everyday. just give him some time but keep trying. make sure your tank is pretty humid to make sure he is atleast drinking water

Cool. I told my self im worrying to much about them but I just want my pets to be healthy.
Ill keep doing what im doing though. Had a little trouble with humidity for like a day. Keeping a close eye on those little guys. Fixed it by putting a wash cloth over half of the tank. worked pretty well. Thanks for the advice though.

It can take some time. Try not to overwhelm them by putting in too many insects at one time. Just two or three crickets, roaches, etc is plenty. Otherwise it just freaks them out. Misting them so that they have plenty of fluids is the most important thing. Geckos can go a long time without food, but staying hydrated is much more vital.

Nice. So far Ive been putting in about 5-10 in each night. I know there is no substrate but i did the same thing I did with my big tokay except I used the bottom of a little bitty milk jug for both. Just feel like i can keep a better track of food consumption and it is less stress if I dont have to scour the cage every day to see if they ate or not. Put the bottoms in the same spot every night.

Do you think I should just put the roaches in the tank so they can hunt?

Also Ive been spraying the cage down in the morning and evening. figured this should be ok.

Actuall what I did for a while to get mine to eat his first few crickets was I put him in a small plastic container with a couple crickets and left him for a while and they were gone. Its easier for hatchlings to see their prey that way

It'll take time for your Tokay's to eat. If they are hungry, they will eat. They are not the type of creature to starve themselves even when food is readily available in front of their face.

I had originally bought a 6 month Tokay from a pet shop and when i took it home, it took about 3-7 days for it to eat. I would put crickets in the cage every few days, then take them out, and she wouldnt eat. Eventually she did. Also mine had some strange behaviour patterns. When I had first gotten her she would sleep on the ground and what not during the day. Now after having her for a full month in about the same cage, now she sleeps hidden in bark up on the wall during the day. Took a whole month for me to see this behaviour. Just took a little longer to adapt is all.
