Default I'm Confused

So I got my Malaysian Golden Gecko just over a month ago. When I got him he was a beautiful gold color. Since I have had him he rarely goes that color but instead stays a chocolately brown color. Some people have said that something may not be right in his environment but I am very careful to keep humidity and temp levels where they should be.

Could it be that this is really just his coloring?

I'm no expert by any means... But that's probably it's fired down color. It was most likely stressed when you first got it home and was showing that it was. They usually fire up at high stress levels, while hunting, and in the evening. But again, I'm not an expert....

Well he does go brighter when he escapes and I have to chase him down from the wall...LOL.....so Kelly you may be right.

And the people I got him from did say he had been under alot of stress lately from the people that had him before, them rescuing him from the people then me bringing him home. Good thing he had already dropped his tail cause I am sure he would have dropped it during this time. Now he is in a nice big tank, a nice hide up high and thats where he hangs out. Sticks his head out every once in a while just to say hi....LOL

Hey,

I use a trio of Golden's for cricket clean-up in my feeder room. i.e., they are loose in that room. They will go from brown to a light velvet golden green depending on time of day. Also, they are much brighter during courtship.

I found that when they get some Crested Gecko Diet or fruit, they do much better than just insects.

Enjoy!

It's a tokay morph. Some might call it a calico. Others might call it a piebald.

I called it a Super Calico for a while. She has proven out to be pied. She has offspring that, at this point, are white with the normal patterning in the splotches.

So I have both. True pied animals, (Think of a pied Ball Python) and I have Calico which has ranged from almost all white with random heavy black spots, to almost granite-like animals. I'll work on posting some photos to show the difference.
