I have a male tokay for about 9 months now. I started out feeding him crickets but He just never seemed to get enough of them. I opted to switch foods and went to dubia's He has grown. My question is how big and how much should a tokay of 10-12 months weigh? He will usually only eat 1 adult dubia a week. I know that is a large amount of food and nutrition per roach. My question is should I be feeding him the smaller nymphs so that he eats more or are the adults fine? I do have a wide varity of sizes to feed as well.
Any info on this subject would be great. Oh I just weighed him the other day and he is currently setting at 78grams. he may have weighted a bi more but if you remember I made him drop part of his tail in on of his escapes when I had to fish him out of behind something after hours of waiting for him to come out... I know the lost part of the tail didnt make up that much of his weight tho since it was the end 2 inches at tops.

Your tokay only eats one roach a week? That is very low. Did it always eat so low? How many crickets did your tokay use to eat? I feed my tokay 4-5 crijets every two days.

When he was smaller he would eat 2 dozen crickets a week. Dubia adults are quite large. He has always ate like this. I may try switching to nymphs and see how many he goes through a week. I put them in the container when one is eaten. They seem to go about 1 adult a week.

That does seem like a small amount even though dubia are large. Maybe he just doesn't like them. You should keep a close eye on his weight. If he starts to lose weight, you might want to go back to crickets or try a different type of roach like lateralis.

Ethan he don't seem to mind em. I will pick up a dozen crickets when I make it the way of the pet shop again. His weight has stayed close to the same. He has put on 10 grams in the past month or 2. So he is gaining a bit of weight. Hope its not that he don't like the dubia's cause I have a big colony just for him and my sons leo. LOL

If he's maintaining his weight and staying active and healthy, it's nothing to worry about. They obviously do slow down on the amount that they eat as they reach their adult size and their metabolism slows down. That being said, one roach per week still seems like a small amount of food for such a large species. So do keep an eye on him.

I will do. I hate weight him as he is so damn mean. LOL good thing i have gloves to handle him with. I put 3 small roaches in the cup tonight and will monitor when they disappear.
