Ever since he became a dad somewhere last year, my 11" male monster-Tokay guards his tank like a real trooper every evening. He starts by glueing himself to the front glass of the tank, so that I can't open it to mist the tank or provide food. After an hour or so, dad patrols the back of the tank and the coast is clear to do some maintenance...

I decided to shoot some pictures while he's doing his "I'm tough as nails, stay out of my territory" routine. It's really cute in a strange way, I think.
Anyway, I love this Tokay very much, I think it's the best looking Tokay I've ever seen, but of course I'm biased...

Wow he is beefy!! What do you feed him?

He's on a diet of crickets, grasshoppers and dubia's. No pinkies or waxworms or fat food like that.
In the pictures he's all puffed up because he doesn't like any intruders, so he appears larger than he is.
Still, it's quite a bulky animal, he's also *very* fast and has an incredible loud voice.
At night when he's relaxed he's much lighter than this and even more beautiful.
I still can't get over the fact that a nocturnal animal can have such vibrant colours.
Tokay truly are unique!
