Hey guys,
I have been watching two Tokay geckos at a petco. I was going for a few weeks, and they just keep getting worse. So i decided to get them.
Here is the one that is worst off.

And here is the second one.


I want to know what you guys think i should feed them to try and get there weight up. I am feeding Dubia Roaches atm. and both have had one, but would not eat any more.

Wow that is terrible.

Did they eat on their own or did you have to force them to eat?

With how wet you have the one in the picture make sure to keep the temperatures up(esp. at night time) because they will get cold very fast that wet. I think that if they ate on their own I would continue to offer them food but not let extra bugs run around for long periods(since they look weak). They can eat as they feel like it and that will be a lot less stressful. If you had to force them to eat I would take it slower because of all the stress involved.

I was letting it drink, the cage is not that wet normally. I placed the roach in its mouth with tongs, but did not force it too eat, once it had it in its month it ate. The second one eats all on its own out of a dish that has roaches in it. So just keep feeding the roaches? Or should i try something with more fat?

Stick with roaches. They have plenty of fat in them. Feeding them junkfood like waxworms or pinkies is not a healthy way to increase body mass. The best way to get him healthy is to feed a healthy diet...not a fatty diet. Well gutloaded, dusted roaches are about the best thing you can feed. Make sure that your temps are appropriate, and keep him well hydrated. Minimal stress with lots of vertical hides (cork bark, pvc tubes, etc) for him to hide in. Those simple steps will go a long way to getting him back in good condition.

Hey,

Please keep them quarantined from your other Tokay both physically and use sterile post handling/hand washing before you move on to other chores regarding your reptiles.

A drop or two of Repti-vites would not hurt either one of them. And if you had some Flagyl or Panicur for the skinny one, (or both) that could hedge your bet as well.

Thanks for the reply. I have them both in a separate room, and i always wash my hands after working with any of my reptiles. I have some Panicur for my bearded dragons, i will give them some right now, and i also have this Liquid Multivitamin. Do you think it would be good for them too?

Yeah, assuming they are drinking water. You can give them a few drops of water at the same time too.

Glad you got them out of the store. That's so sad. I've found tokays to stress super easy in new environments. I agree with everyone ^ only 1 thing I would add to it. If the room they are in has a lot of movement I'd cover the front with paper to make them feel a little more secure. I did it with some of mine that I got shipped and it helped tons. I wish your little ones the best.

The 2nd Tokay has a long snout. You will get them well on their way to recovery. My tokay was pretty skinny when I got him. His previous owners treated him badly, now he is doing very well. These guys are tough and very very big eaters with a huge appetite they'll go from the one roach they eat at a time now to eating plenty.
