It is cooler out so it could be that. What size tank and how is it set up. Temps and humidity? As well as prior diet. How is the tokay looking? Is it skinny? Pictures of tokay and tank set up could be useful.

It could be both the stress of cleaning or cool weather. If he's still thick I wouldn't stress. Mine always hide from sight also. Sometimes if I sneak in late at night I get a good look but that's it. I can hear them all the time when im not near. Lol.

Cool choice! Tokay's are beautiful geckos. He is probably just stressed and dehydrated. Tokay Geckos are often wild caught as opposed to being captive bred. If this is the case with your Tokay, he is definitely going to be stressed. Chances are it is also dehydrated, emaciated and may have parasites and or diseases. My suggestion is to temporarily offer him mealworms in a feeding dish instead of crickets. Crickets can add to his stress if they are running around all over the place and taking little nibbles from his tail and feet. Once he starts eating, don't use mealworms as your main diet though. They are too high and fat and don't offer much nutritional value. Make sure to mist his tank at least twice a day so he has plenty of water to rehydrate. Other than that, give him some space and alone time to allow him to adjust to his new environment. Good luck!

I take advantage of the cooler early winter weather to "bring winter" to the Tokay Rooms. I allow the temps to drop some for a month and then increase the rain. They will eat less when the it is cooler.

Also, I have found that some Tokay will not eat again as well after a heavy feed. i.e., I will wait a few more days before feeding again after feeding fat roaches, mice pinks or Goliath Horned worms.
