Hello everyone,
First a little introduction, my name's Martijn and I'm from the Netherlands/Holland and interested in reptiles since I was young (Jurassic Park was so awesome:P). So like 4 years ago I bought my first own reptile namely a Bearded Dragon(Jack). The little guy grew like cabbage and was full-grown before I knew it. So everything started itching again, I wanted another!
So, I gathered information and got myself a Tokay Gecko which I named 'Hyde'. Which I put in a glass tank with the following sizes: 50x35x70 cm so that would be 20" wide, 14" deep and 26" high. Time went on and Hyde was a happy girl.
So as time went on, I got a girlfriend which was okay with me holding reptiles, went with me to a reptile show somewhere near my place to pick up a new tank for Jack the Beardy (other one got a huge crack in the bottom). And there we saw something we both really liked, a Water Dragon. Unfortunately they needed a really big tank so it was out of the question at the time (living with my parents, didn't want more mess etc etc). However the last two months I started thinking about it again after seeing young Water Dragons at the local Reptile Store. And then everything started rolling. I wanted a really big tank and put in the Water Dragons and Hyde in the same tank. But this is not do-able so it seems as the Tokay is a too aggressive specie.
tl;dr
Current tank:
So, I decided there had to come a new tank for Hyde seeing as how I thought the other tank was getting too small for her. So 2 weeks ago I ordered a new terrarium with the following dimensions:
60x50x100cm (WxDxH) = 24"x20"x40"
The tank is made out of (don't know if this is translated well) "Shuttering wood" seeing as how this keeps the heat in better than glass, and removes a lot of stress because the tank is closed on all sides except the front. This tank should be ready coming Saturday after which in gonna let someone build in a background built out of polystyrene and hardened tile adhesive. One thing I'd like to know however is what are some recommendations for Tokay's concerning backgrounds?
I know they need loads of places to hide and climb in/on. I'm also gonna put in a partner for Hyde but I won't be able to get any adult ones until the next reptile show coming april. Because this is the case, I'm not going to put Hyde in the new tank until I acquire a partner for her because I don't want them to fight over who's territory it is. I'm not gonna put in a little water bowl, since I will put in a 'Lucky Reptile Super Rain' set in it (already got that like yesterday, looks really awesome!) which will make it rain automatically at set times, so they can drink by licking the water from plants/walls.
So, any recommendations about stuff I should really put in the new tank or stuff to take into consideration when adding a partner?
