I just got a juv tokay and he or she came kinda skinny. It is eating pretty well, but i was wondering if anyone knew of a good food that is high in fat or one that they are crazy for. Please keep in mind that i don't live in a huge city... i.e. i cant get the most odd of things... but thanks for any assistance!!!!!!

Richard, pinkies are very high in fat. Too rich for being a main diet. But if you just need to get some weight on him quickly, that would do it. If you can't find them at a local pet store, try putting an ad on the local craig's list. Otherwise just go with a good healthy diet of crickets/roaches/mealworms, etc. And feed him as much as he will eat every day. Make sure to gutload the feeders well and make sure to dust with supplementation. Also, I suggest having a fecal exam done to check for parasites. Most any decent vet should be able to do this (doesn't need to be a "reptile" vet). You'll just need to take them a fresh fecal sample. If he's loaded with parasites it won't do you much good to try and fatten him up.

Pinkies can be bad if the animal it to small. If the animal is good size then pinkies are good like he said.

This is a perfectly healthy animal thats about 4 months old in the pic. Tokays arent a very "chubby" animal till they get closer to adult size.

If you want to build up fat reserves feeding some waxworms now and then does the trick as well.

Just feed him a steady diet of healthy crickets with calcium and vitamins and your tokay will natrually get the fat back. I wouldnt feed him fattning foods just to get him fat.
