Help My New Babies!!
Hi everyone,
I just got 3 new tokays today and besides looking very skinny they look okay. They are wc adults or maybe sub adults and 1 is a little fatter than the other 2. The other two are very skinny maybe even a little emaciated and im sure its b/c of parasites. The first thing I did when i got them from fed ex today was put them each in what i call a quarentine tank which is a tank with papertowel and the basic ammenities. My problem is Ive got a fecal from the fatter 1 but from the looks of the other 2 theyve prolly had parasites for a while now and im not sure if they can produce feces. Soo... long story short i want to take them all to the vet like tomarrow asap and i was wondering if it would be harmful to just treat them all for all parasites or am i going to have to wait for a feces from all of them before i take them. Thanks for any advice guys theswe are the first ive bought not being able to see them in person first and i jus want the BEST for them.

I'm not very Familiar with this species at all but giving an animal a treatment it doesn't need may be harmful, its probably going to be better to take the babies to the vet and see what they can do, this way if parasites aren't the problem they can find out what is and get it treated straight away rather than you giving them the treatment and perhaps having no results while the animals get worse if it is a different problem.
best bet with these sorts of situations is if in doubt take it to the reptile vet. hope that helps and your babies recover soon =)

Update!!
Well i dont have good news, but we took them to the vet today and like i said in my last post 2 are pretty sick. They are incredibly emaciated the vet said thry are pretty much on their "deathbed" to exactly qoute his words. 1 is worse off than the other 2 and the healthiest one is blind or possibly blind in one eye. But it doesnt seem to bother her very much. We dewormed them b/c they found pinworms And he said to just keep hoping and praying that the two will pull through this. But the really bad one is seeming to lose her sticking ablity. She keeps trying to climb up the glass and she slowly starts to slide down.I went and bought this Flukers emergency aid for malnutrtioned and dehydrated reptiles, and fed it to her in a syringe, although she didnt really lap it up or anything she just kninda let me squirt it down her throat. I contacted the seller and told him about their condition and he said he knew they were underweight but didnt think they were that bad, and refunded me for the two out of the three. I dont even care about the money. I really just think its absoulutly horrible that someone thought the condition they were in is acceptable to sell them in. Im just feeling really horrible right now bc i cant do anything more than i am.(i think, but if ANYONE HAS ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE LET ME KNOW). i dont want to watch them suffer but i just keep telling myself that if its their time alteast its with someone who cared. Thanks for ur reply

Thats no good at all. Sounds like you've done all you can for them just keep a close eye on them and make sure there is always plenty of water available. you shouldn't have been sold the animals in the first place by the sounds of things, how long did it take for them to be couriered to you? theres a difference between underweight and emaciated and its not a fine line the breeder would have known this. thats bad news about your other one being partially blind too.
i know how bad it is to watch an animal suffer, hopefully the animals recover, it sounds like they're in caring hands so I'm sure they will do as well as they can.

Usually with tokays once they reach the point where they wont eat they are pretty much done. Thats the bad thing about wc tokays. Get some good cb ones and you can save money (vet visit, medication, GAS) That stuff adds up! I am not just saying that because I breed them either.

Still going strong
NZ youre right they never should have been sold to me in the first place. I got them over night by fedex so it wasnt the shipping that did this to them. I talked to the seller and told him what was going on with particularly pissed off email and he said he knew they were underweight but didnt think they were that bad....which is a bunch of bs. He refunded my money but like I said b4 its not about the money. But they are still alive they seem to be getting a little stronger. The really bad one is starting to fight me a little now when I go to take her out of the tank for the emergency aid food. They have 1 or 2 more days off being on 50% calorie intake and then theyll be going up to 100% intake. But Im just worried about it still being too little too late. The really bad one like i said seems to be getting stronger shes able to hold on to the sides of the tank more instead of just sliding down. I probably should have just gotten some cb but i think this was meant to be in some screwed up way. Bc if i hadnt gotten them i know they would have never had a chance. I spoke to a lot of people about buying tokays, and this person was reccommended to me...but i realy dont c how they could have. But who knows. Ill keep everyone updated on how they are and Ill try to post some pics. But they do look very sad.

Captive bred is pretty much always a better bet when/if available. But Tokay are tough critters. So it wouldn't surprise me if they make a full recovery given proper care. Good luck with them!

Well... 2 are doing very well the female is out of quarentine and in the good cage i just got a new camera today so ill be able to post some awesome pics of her and the cage. The one that was the worst ( the last pic) is actually doing suprisingly well, he is still in quarentine until he gains a bit more weight, but he is eating on his own and doing awesome. But the middle one(3rd pic) died saddly 2 days ago. We are still waiting on the necropsy. But my vet tried reassureing me that i did the best i could. Which is good but stil its hard to watch something suffer. Thanks for asking Ill definately post some update pictures!
