Default Some Questions...

Hello all,
I have some questions about my tokay. I purchased a female tokay (believe she is female based on finding out how to sex her on these boards) about 3 months ago. I have her in a 30 gal tanks that has a substrate of bedabeast, a large half log piece, some fake plants, and large branch like structure in with her. I spray her down twice a day and keep the humidity and temps at normal conditions. I am worried about trying to handle her in order to do my cleaning and replace the substrate and objects in the tank. I haven't attempted to "grab" her yet and dont want to have anything happen. Am I too worried? also, she spends all of her "day time" hiding next to the half log piece, covered by some fake small palm frawns, and i have wanted to make her a hide on the side of the glass, up off the ground. What is the best way to do this. I was thinking of gluing one of the smaller 1/2 log pieces to the side of the glass so she can hide during the day up higher, but dont know what type of glue to use. She seems to be doing well, eating 4-6 crickets a night w/ the occasional pinky. One thing that she doesnt do is call out, at all. I am sorry for the loooong post, but any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mack

If it is a female tokay you are not going to hear any calling from her, males are the ones that do the loud calling. When you have to catch her just be quick because the bites do hurt pretty bad. Tokays are nocturnal so they are going to hide alot during the day and come out at night when the lights are off. WC tokays tend to hide more than CB do in my experience.

Tile is great, if your lizards are indigenous to your bathroom

Thanks Cliff, I was glad to see you posted on here as it seems you are a kind of "staple" around here and I have been reading a lot of your posts recently. My main thing right now is trying to get her a hide off of the ground. I have noticed a lot of people constructing caves or some kind of hide up high on the sides of the tanks. I plan on building a large, custom viv in the near future but untill then want to get her something off of the ground that she can feel safe in. Am i being too concerned w/ that? also, any ideas on how I could do that.

If you plan on attaching her hide to the glass use aquarium silicon (sold at most pet stores). Keep her out of the tank until it's well cured and the fumes vent away.

I would try to get her a place off the ground to hide. But anything is better than nothing, you could even just use a pvc pipe for her to crawl in. you can make it look nice to by putting some "great stuff" all over it then coating the "great stuff" in moss dirt rocks ect..... I use hotglue to glue alot of things in my cages, no fumes and it cools off pretty fast.

Thanks a ton! I cant believe i didnt think of hot glue! I also was wondering if bedabeast is the best substrate to use? I dont want to use bark because i have seen where they can eat pieces of it and get "stopped up". I was thinking about using coconut husk but not too sure about it yet either.
