Unhappy urgent help needed with vittatus female!!!

Hi everybody,

I found my vittatus female yesterday on the bottom off here tank, whit severely trembling feet, and curling toes. She was breathing really fast, but still showed a normal defensive behaviour when I was coming to close with my hand. She stopped eating since yesterday, while she normally charges right at me, when I drop some preys in here tank.
I went to the vet today (not specialized in reptiles, unfortunate enough), but he diddn't had a clue what was wrong with here.
No, I have exposed here to a lot off stress, for nothing!!
Does anybody on this forum knows what might be wrong with here???
I've gathered some info on here, that might be a help:

- She's a WC, and I brought here home with me from a reptile store were she was housed with a bunch off leo's. I therefore have no idea how old she is...
- Four weeks ago, she laid a perfect clutch off eggs, while she was in a good condition.
- I feed here waxworms, crickets and grashoppers, all dusted with a vitamine/calciumpowder
- She is housed with a healthy looking male, wich she avoids since yesterday.

If anybody has an idea about what's wrong with here; please let me know!!!

Kind regards,

Cindy

Typically a secondary syndrom. Mostly associated with long time stress, sometimes with heavy parasite load. High doses of Vitamin B complex plus careful general supplementation with other vitamines and calcium can help to relieve the symptoms, but to really help, the real reason has to be identified and removed.

Hope that helps

I really need to thank you, Ingo!! I first thought; 'How could she be severly stressed, nothing has changed since I got here...' It took me some ours to figure it out, but I think it has everything to do with the eggs. I posted a thread once about how seriously protective they are with the eggs (both male and female)
She has laid here eggs on a glass side off the tank, that is quite "visual" for everybody. Since she's got the eggs, especially Miss Stripe snaps at me, and tries to bite me, if my hands are in the tank. And if I've calculated it correctly, in a week the eggs are about to hatch. So I sort off blind folded the glass on three sides, and although she's not completely here self yet, at least she's sticking to the glass again, and stopped trembling with here feet!
I sure hope that I've reduced enough stress, to make here better again!!
But again; Thank you very much for the advice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kind regards,

Cindy

Hi Cliff,

Thanks for asking! She seems to be doing fine again, although she is quite skinny right behind here neck... But here belly is quite big, actually.
Could she be gravid again????
Hope not, cause I really want here to gain some weight first..
Greetings,

Cindy

Cindy, have you separated her from the male?
I know even with being separated, sometimes certain gecko species can retain sperm and keep laying fertile eggs for a while. Sometimes "cooling" her temps might help them to slow or stop laying, but their appetites diminish with cooling as well.
Maybe put a small dish of calcium powder in her cage so she has access to it at all times may help her?
PLease keep us updated!
Saille
