If you hold it underwater it will probably drown before it lets you go. Putting cold water on them doesn't work either. The best way I have found to make any reptile let go is get really hot tap water dont pour it on the animal just let a couple drops of the hot water fall on it and they will let go immediately, it just causes a little discomfort but doesn't hurt them. If you do pour hot water on them you will scold them them so just a drop or two. Again it does not leave any marks or burn them. It sounds a little mean but no serious or permanent effect. Just a quick discomfort and that is about it.

I just want to add dont go boil or microwave water then you might hurt them pretty bad.

First take care that he can grip sth with his feet. Then more or less gently puff laterally into his open mouth. Often this is enough to get him off. At least it is one of the less stressfull methods.

Put some vodka in an eyedropper. A drop or two in the back corner of the mouth should do the trick.

Blowing laterally into the mouth probably means that one should blow into the mouth from the side, via the opening in front of the finger.

It causes a little pain but no more than someone pinching you on the arm. Thats why you only use a drop or two. If you pour a bunch of hot water on them then yeah you are going to hurt them. A drop will cool with in seconds of it hitting them. I am not trying to say my way is the only way or even the right way. It is just a way that I use and it works very well for me. It does sound mean but I would never do something that would harm the animal.

I know my way sounds bad but it is really not. Just something to keep in mind. I have tired alot of different ways and this is the one I have found to be most effective for me. Thats why I stress just a few drops and they will cool really quick. They Just give a quick little sting that they wont like it and will let go. But I do suggest try a few different ways and just see what works for you. I have never heard of Ingo's way but it sounds kind of interesting. I might try that next time I get latched onto and see how it works. Like Ingo said make sure they can grab onto something with thier feet when trying any way so they dont fall off your hand and hurt their self.
