Default Hey Hey from The Bay (and Portland, OR)

Hey all, I'm a member on the gecko resource forums and the pangea forums and have been for a while, but I decided I'd finally join here too. I breed high end red and pinstripe cresteds and have a few leachianus as well. I'm an undergrad at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and live the rest of the year at home in the Bay Area of California. At school I work as a lab research assistant to Dr. Kellar Autumn, who discovered that it was Van der Waals forces that allow geckos to stick to stuff. The lab does nano-physics work basically, and I'm the gecko care / behavior guy in the lab. Here's a link to our lab's website...

Welcome

Always interested in high end leachies or cresteds, also just raising up leachies for friends. Feel free to email me offers about whatever whenever!

I'm also into downhill mountain biking / mountain bike jumping, motocross, cars, and carnivorous plants.

Looking forward to being a member here

Thumbs up

Hi Andrew ~

A hearty welcome to GU! Upon reading your post I'm wondering whether Dr. Autumn's presence at Lewis & Clark influenced your choice of colleges? I have read about his gecko research for years now and feel that you are fortunate to have him as a mentor.

Do you ever go to reptile shows in the Portland area? There are frequent ones in Wilsonville, twice yearly ones in Hillsboro (Unique Animal Expo), and maybe a greater Portland area show.

Cheers!

The fact that Kellar was a professor here definitely influenced my choice of schools, I met him before I even decided on the school and he told me it would be really neat to have a kid who breeds Rhacodactylus working in the lab with him (I'm actually typing on a computer in the lab right now!), so here I am. The other things that attracted my to Lewis & Clark were the drop dead gorgeous campus on top of a hill in the forest, huge mountain bike jumps really close by (I'm an avid bike jumper), a great Biology Program, and well regarded academics in general.

Please keep me updated on Portland and Seattle shows! I would always love to go if I can, but my days here are busy and I don't usually go out of my way to look up when or where the local shows are.

Thanks for the kind post! I always appreciate questions about my work here, not too many people on any of the forums are interested in it.
