Default Hello from LatinAmerica (Venezuela)

Hi!
I'm new here and I am just starting to get to know the page... I had a problem with my leopard gecko and I found this page that actually helped me a lot to treat crypto!
Just wanted to say hi! From Venezuela

I am from California. I have a cousin in Mexico who was interested in getting some geckos, but I have never seen any for sale in Mexico before- pet stores carry puppies, chickens, red eared sliders and occasionally fish and baby iguanas, but that's the extent of it. I was wondering if there was anywhere in Latin America where the reptile hobby was more common. Where did you get your leopard gecko?

Well, my first gecko was a gift from a dear friend who breeds snakes and every year goes to the Daytona Reptile expo, and he brought me a female leopard gecko, and after that I fell in love with them and I bought another female and an albino male from a friend who breeds them here and I started my hobbie!

The herper community here is not very wide but we have a LOT of great specimens!! I have a group of friends and there are veterinarians, biologists, and many other profesionals who keep reptiles, and some of them go to the US and Germany and buy some animals there, and they start breeding here, we have some really amazing boas and pithons with incredible morphs, my friends really dedicate a lot of time and study in order to breed the best animals (he he he some of them have learned to speak english JUST to be able to read books about reptiles, because there is not a lot of reptile literature in spanish), and also many many venemous snakes, there are not too many gecko keepers, but there are some and the hobbie is spreading! Right now I have one pregnant female! but sadly the male was diagnosed with crypto recently so I don't know if I should breed with her again, I am treating the male, and he seems to be recovering, the female still has no simptoms.

I am going to ask amongs my herpetofriends (he he he) to see if there is anyone who knos a herper from Mexico! I'll let you know!

Best regards

Saskia
