Default moonglow geckos

I believe I have two true moonglow geckos. They are white all the time - no spots, they are not albino no red eyes. They have been given to me but one is very thin. I think they are a breeding pair, but not sure yet. I do not know how old they are or really anything about them other than their color. Any ideas how to get the one to eat? The other looks fine and is eating - should my first stop be to the vet?

Welcome to Geckos Unlimited!

So these are crested geckos? I would isolate the thin gecko immediately just so there is no competition for food.

What are you feeding them? Meal Replacement Powder (MRP) by Allen Repashy makes for a good all-around crested gecko diet with some crickets once in awhile.

I am very new - never had geckos before so please forgive my ignorance. They are not crested though - we are trying to rescue them as they were ovbiously starved. I live in a place with very little 'pet' resources and don't know if I can find the meal replacement powder, but I will certainly try. We will seperate them today, and have given them some small crickets which I am not sure the super skinny one ate. I do have access to meal worms and will feed them a couple today. Any other suggestions? They are both completely white with a purple color over their eyes. One has red eyes the other has the brown cat eyes. Thank you for all suggestions!

It sounds like maybe you have leopard geckos? A picture or two would give us sooo much information to help you with!

Its hard to say what the care requirements are if you do not know what kind of geckos they are.
As for now, the colors are of little importance. The big thing is to get them healthy.

I hope what Im about to say does not hurt your feelings in any way, but I just want to speak honestly with you..
You should not rescue an animal unless you are aware of what the animal is and what kind of care it needs. I know you meant to do the right thing, and rescuing them is definitely a good thing! But, if you cannot provide them with the proper care either, then it will all be a lost cause.
However, we at GU do NOT want that to happen! So any help we can provide we will!

Im going to warn you though, as you have never had geckos before, this can get expensive at times.
Do you have two tanks/containers to keep them in?
Do you have two UTHs for them? - remember it is very important (if the are leos) that they have belly heat of about 90-95 F.
Do you have the proper vitamins and calcium supplements for them?

Sorry if anything I said sounded harsh - I really just wanted to be clear and honest.
I wish you the best of luck!

(and again, pictures would really help us help you!)

We just picked up another tank this morning and are seperating right now - we have two lights and have purchased everything our small pet store has. And I would never have taken them but the pet store did not want them nor did she know how to take care of them - they would have surely died quickly. I have been researching alot - that's is how I found this site. They came half dead with improper lighting and home. We have at least fixed this and the larger one is eating and seems much happier. Now to try and save the small one.....
I will post pictures asap but they are not crested and I am reasonably sure that one is Diable Blanco lepard gecko - but the one with dark eyes looks like a lepard moonglow? I at first thought both were moonglow but finally saw the red eyes on the one. In any case I will treat them as lepards for now.

OK, so assuming they are leopard geckos...

What do you mean by "lighting"?
Leopard geckos actually should not have a lot of lighting around their tank. Too much can really stress them out. To get their tanks warm you have to have 2 UTHs (one for each tank). a UTH is an "Under Tank Heater" - they sort of look like small heating pads, but they have a sticky side that you stick onto the bottom of one side of the tank. This will give the leopard geckos belly heat, which they need in order to digest their food.

As for substrate, what do you have them on now? If you were given sand, calcisand, wood chips, saw dust, or any other loose material I strongly suggest you remove that quickly. For now I would line the tank floor with paper towels. This will provide a safe ground for them, give you easy clean up, and create a thinner "floor depth" which will help the UTH's heat come through better.

Make sure they each have a dish of clean, fresh water in their tanks with them (clean and refill each day or every other day).

If you do not have a probed thermometer, I suggest you buy at least one. having two (so they can be permanently in each tank) is way better, but one will suffice to get you the temps for now.
ait temp does not matter. always read the floor temps. On the hot side the ground should read 90-97 F and the cool side should read 85-75 F.

we will be awaiting pictures and hoping to help you out as much as possible to get these geckos healthy and happy!

Vikki ~

Please post pictures. I was going off a Google search for moonglows, a "morph" of cresties. Maybe NOT what you have. So don't run out and buy MRP till you find out conclusively.

Leopard geckos are very common in the pet trade, so I'm surprised your pet store could not advise you somewhat.

IF these are leopard geckos, here's what I recommend: http://www.geckosunlimited.com/commu...-nutshell.html

We do need to know the genus in order to give proper advice.
