One of my neighbors has given me permission to harvest bamboo from his yard when I need it (otherwise he gets overrun with it, anyways lol), so that's what I personally use. Oak branches can work really well, too. Just have to sterilize everything first (bake or run through the dishwasher on "sanitize" setting without chemicals).
