Default New guy here

Hi folks.

It seems that I'm being forced into getting a gecko for my son as a Christmas present. He's been wanting one for a while now, and I believe he's mature enough this year to get one. So.... I've been doing a lot of research in getting things set up for him and his new friend. This way I'll be able to teach him the proper care of this little critter. I must say that I've been having a lot of fun learning about gecko's, and I'm very excited in getting him one. I've had many reptiles as a child myself, but never a gecko. I certainly remember the joy, and I'm looking forward to learning with my son the pleasure of keeping a gecko.

In the meantime.... I'd like to see pictures of some tank setups. Primarily I'm interested in setting up the substrate. I've pretty much opted for the paper towel/slate combo, but would like to see some setups to model.

Thanks!

Welcome to GU!

What type of gecko are you thinking of getting him? Geckos live in all sorts of different natural habitats- from deserts, to rainforests, to arid mountaintops- and therefore the setup you'll need depends on what species you're considering.

Welcome to GU! Good to hear that you're doing your research! I would second the slate tile and paper towel combo!

I'm picking up the baby tomorrow. Habitat is set up, and I have paper towels in there right now. That should suffice for a juvenile right now, right?
