Hello to GU

Hey there,

First day on the forum here and i thought I would introduce myself. My name is Dan and this little guy is OCHO. I just got him from a pet store and he is my first gecko. So far he is extremely shy in his new surroundings but seems to be very curious and tame being handled. The tank that I have is the large 55 gal zoo med bearded dragon tank (I miss my beardie) tipped vertical on its side with lots of real and fake vines to crawl on. I hope this isn't too much real estate for this guy. He was in a very tiny pet store enclosure when I bought him.

Hi Dan! Welcome to GU! I just got my first three gargoyle geckos home yesterday so I know how you feel! I've got leopard geckos and have experience with them so I'm excited to try my hand at the arboreal geckos! Your boy looks a bit like my little reticulated girl, though she is much younger!
Onto the tank: It may be a bit big... Are there any signs of him eating? Have you found poop yet? How long have you had him? Is he always hiding in the tank or do you see him exploring at all? Usually when the tank is too big you'll find that the gecko won't eat and show signs of stress like hiding. Are you able to monitor his weight? Another way to tell that he's eating is to make sure he's not losing any weight. Get a gram scale from any large department store and do a weekly weigh in. I just got a new one today from the kitchen section of my local Walmart.
